Name, Image, & Likeness (NIL) at tOSU

So is NIL fixed?
No, OSU needs to start giving millions to HSers, then it'll be fixed. I mean look at the success at Miami and aTm

Like @dragurd stated, NIL is and has been fine. Schools wanting to get in bidding wars for teenagers, good luck with that. I just see that as a massive locker room headache.

According to 11W this morning the NCAA is trying for a massive over reach to make up for lost time on the NIL front.

Some, like the 11W author apparently, will have the short term view that the massive, dysfunctional bureaucracy that created the mess is now going to somehow fix it by giving themselves even more power that they surely won't abuse or mishandle in any way (sounds like a page stratight out of the U.S. Government's propaganda booklet but I digress).

Unless I am reading this wrong, the NCAA just gave themselves the power to officially charge a school based on circumstantial evidence:

Investigators can now use circumstantial evidence (like a tip or news story) instead of on-record sourcing to presume a school violated NCAA rules. Schools can disprove the allegation or else be potentially charged.

So, say a Brett McFuckmyface comes up with a "story" based on a "reliable source" (that he doesn't ever have to reveal of course) about OSU because well, that sells. OSU now has to prove a negative to the NCAA.

You can't prove a negative.

No one can be this stupid. Can they?

Sorry…that was sarcasm! I agree with you. I think we’re handling NIL ok also and have done just fine with the portal. I 100% prefer being in a position where program results attract talent and your performance on the field attracts the NIL dough. I know there was some frustration over losing a few 5 *’s this cycle because of NIL offers of which some didn’t clear. It’s definitely a bit of FOMO and I get the fear that we could be falling behind in a whacky era of massive change and overreactions.

Texas A&M 2022 was like Gatsby’s house at 7 am cleaning up the mess with no Daisy to be found. Miami 2023 will be a lot of people dressed up as empty seats at hard rock stadium (wake me up when they actually do something). Bama’s collective shelled out cash they didn’t have to for effectively the same recruiting results. The universe will settle and we’ll be fine. We’ve continued to recruit the talent needed and we have the option to upgrade through the portal where we missed or failed to develop.

By the way, any plea by the OSU AD to give more money to fund NIL is so dorky. We just raked in more money than any other program. Walk tall, use your resources to continue making OSU the most attractive place to be a student athlete and if you put in the work / deliver results / be a good human Buckeye nation will always take care of you.
