Most Talented College RB This Decade

NextBuck

All-American
Thought this would make up a interesting discussion.

I personally think it is Adrian Peterson. When I saw him as a freshman my jaw hit the floor. Size, speed, power, and just natural running skills. Like how Jon Elway is the ideal QB, measurable wise, I feel the same way for Peterson.

Some of my relatives have argued with me that if Clarrett had stayed for 3 years, and not been a shmuck that he would be it, but I disagree. Top 10, but not number 1.

The other two I throw up there are Reggie Bush and Darren McFadden.

The one college player who I will say was screwed by injuries was Frank Gore of Miami. He could have been a great one in college, but at least he stepped it up in the pros.

Beanie is in the Top 10 for me.

I mean there have been a lot of great RB's this decade, but I think that AD is still head and shoulders over everyone else. It's a shame he had injury issues his sophomore and junior years. Could've made a NFL team as a freshman IMO

What are your thoughts on the most talented RB this decade on the college level?

1. Peterson
2. Clarett

AP had it all. Clarett's only knock was breakaway speed. But he was so good at everything else. He was born to play RB for tOSU.

Beanie, Bush, Larry Johnson, McFadden, and maybe McGahee are up there too.

Forgot about McGahee. He was a beast before he hurt his knee.

in my humble opinion, it's Adrian Peterson and it's really not that close.

6'1", 217 pounds, legit 4.4 breakaway speed, incredible agility, unbelievable strength and power. The guy just has it all. He's the proto-typical running back IMO.

The thread, as it reads is "Most Talented."

AD is easily the "best" based on College Performance and NFL success.

MoC might have been the " best" if "Cranial-Anal Inversion" hadn't kicked in.

Bush and McFadden? Both very viable based on versatiltiy. As much as I hate to say it, Beanie doesn't factor in here.

As far as "Talented" I'll stick with AD. He does it all, and barring a career ending injury in the next few years will be in the Hall Of Fame.

Adrian Peterson = AD = All-Day!

Peace.

Was just talking to my dad about Mcgahee on the phone. Yeah he was a BEAST before injuries. Talent wise he is top 5 for me. 6'2, 220, ran a 4.4 forty.. Had something like 25 TD's in his only year as a starter. [censored]...

I read somewhere he held like the miami record for bench press or leg press at Miami. Over all their other great players.

Here is my crack at a Top 10 (Just did it real fast)

1. Peterson
2. Bush
3. McFadden
4. McGahee
5. Clarett
6. Kevin Jones
7. LaDanian
8. L. Johnson
9. Beanie
10. Benson

I just did it real fast so I'm probably forgetting someone.

1. McFadden - he was the fastest and had a stiff-arm up there with Beanie. He played on a one-dimensional offense, where opponents knew he was going to run and they still couldn't stop him. Played big in big games, and threw TDs pretty well. Put up probably the best numbers of any back on the list in a league and era with some great defenses. Finished 2nd in the Heisman voting twice (lost to Troy and Tebow).
2. Bush - lightning on the field, the only back this decade to win the Heisman, he helped his team win a national championship (1.5 national titles, although his boneheaded fumble on a break-away run kept USC from repeating as BCS champs).
3. Beanie - put up those numbers in Ohio State's offense and that's the definition of talent. Stiff-arm, power, speed, vision, and hurdles. Saved some of his best games for the biggest opponents.
4. Peterson - exploded onto the scene, and not unlike Beanie, it would have been fun to have seen what might have been but for injuries. He played in a league that doesn't play defense, and his best season was with an all-round great offense, with the reigning heisman winner at QB (the defenses couldn't load up the box on him). Finished 2nd in the Heisman voting his Freshman season (teammate Jason White finished 3rd after winning it the year before).
5. McGahee - a complete back who was dominating against all defenders except Will Allen.

Cedric Benson HAS to make the top 5 list. But of course AD takes it.

EDIT: In fact, let me take a crack at the top 5:

1. AD
2. Reggie Bush
3. Cedric Benson
4. Maurice Clarett
5. McGahee/McFadden

Cedric was ultra productive and consistent but as far as pure talent, I don't think he's top 5.

I think AD edges Lydell in the one, bkb.....but it's a tough call. I can see why someone would disagree.

Just an FYI....

Outside of the recruiting forums, swearing is NOT prohibited. I dare say some of us fucking encourage it. (*cough* bkb *cough*) At the very bottom of your screen, there is a pull-down menu where you can disable the fucking profanity filter. Switch from "-----BP Work-Safe (default)" to one of the other options (Day, afternoon, or night) and you will get the unfiltered version.

I think Bush is a bit overrated as a running back. A great running back no doubt, and an even better kick and punt returner, but not top 5 in the past decade, IMO. I'd go with:

1. Peterson
2. McFadden
3. McGahee
4. Benson
5. Beanie
