yeah, i'm really sure the kicker needs to be studying a playbook 24/7.
I would have my nose in my playbook and my school work 24/7.
i love how people try to prove that weed is bad for you by citing some example of some guy they know that's a loser. well a very close relative of mine smokes a good amount, and he's very intelligent, hard-working, and successful.
and he will coninue to be very intelligent, hard-working, and successful until he gets busted... whether or not drugs (of any type) should be legal is 100% irrelivant. shoulda woulda coulda is meanlingless as it isn't going to stop you from going to jail and potentially loosing every single thing you have worked your entire life for. last time i checked the "but it should be legal your honor" defense doesn't hold up in a court of law.
let me get this straight. your willing to risk everything you have worked your entire life for over a buzz? are you kidding me!? if your buddy is willing to risk his success over a little weed... *shrug* thats his call imo, just don't cry foul to me when/if he gets busted.
you don't hear about the successful users, because if they went around telling everyone and their company found out, they'd lose their job. so all that people see is the burnouts who don't give a fuck as to who knows about them smoking.
when i was working for a frieght handling company while in college there was a guy who worked the line beside me. absolutely great kid. great work ethic, knew what he was doing and worked hard. long story short, he got hit by fork lift and was knocked into an elevated platform. he hit the metal corner with the back of his neck. the hazmat team filled up a glade bag full of soaped up blood from the kid. i heard the next day he tested positive for pot and that he was fired immediately, insurance refused to cover him, and his workmans comp claim went bye bye. the driver who was 100% at fault in everyway got off without any punishment at all and the kid was wrote up as "at fault". for no other reason than he tested positive for drugs.
so he lost his job, god only knows how badly he got hurt and will likely have to pay out of his pocket. why? because a little buzz was just that damned important.
i disagree with the situation but i can't change it. he can't, you can't, and noone else can either. i can't wave a magic wand and change laws. i can't control what laws are on the books or how they are enforced. all i can control are my actions. if i choose to not act in a way that is in accordance to the law i have to be prepaired for the consiquences. life isn't fair.
and so much of the taxpayer's money would be saved from this "war on drugs" that can never be won or lost. you got a problem with drug dealers...make it legal...the dealers will dissapear. honest farmers can grow it and sell it. tax it and have the money go to a good cause, like improving the schools. under the current system, the only people making money are the dealers; everyone else is losing money, even the non-users, because their tax money is being spent on fighting this stupid war.
you cant regulate, tax, and control something i can grow in my back yard. which is why it will never be legal. deal with it or accept the consiquences. i think it should be legal and have signed many a petition. but i know it never will be.
simply educate people in schools about the dangers of drugs, cigarretes, beer, etc. then when they are 18 they should be free to make their own choice, as long as they are not harming anybody else in the process.
understand i do agree with you on this point. i think it should be legal. hell, i enjoyed smoking when i was young and dumb. now that im old and dumb, i have realized the risks simply aren't worth the rewards. when i want a buzz, i lift weights. its cheaper and i don't go to jail.
you can eat fast food junk and smoke and drink till your heart, lungs, or liver fail, and nobody gives a damn. but you can't get high? i will never understand this law, it makes no fucking sense. just because something is the law doesn't mean it ought to be followed. the british had a lot of stupid laws, and what did our forefathers do? did they meekly follow the bullshit laws, or did they do something about it?
then have the law repealed! but don't sit there and whine and moan because you did something knowing full well it was against the law, got busted, and then punished for your actions. or do as our forefathers did and try and overthrow the gov. but try and keep in mind what happened to those who signed the declaration of independence while you entertain the thought.

if you feel this stand is worth it, go for it. i personally do not. i can get my buzz elsewhere. feel free to pm me if you want to discuss any of the "drug views portion" in more detail. i don't want to hijack the thread anymore than i already have.
getting back on topic. "if" the kid is guilty he needs to be kicked off the team immediately if not sooner. its such a sad situation. but i feel no pitty for him if this is true.
