All bias aside, Beanie is a truck. And a fast one at that.

Clarett unfortunently wasted his talent, but thats another story.

Clarett was a beast in his own right, but I still like Beanie.

Plus his off the field attitude is so hard to look past, where as Beanie is one of the classiest college players in the country.

But even on the field only, as this topic is meant to be, Beanie.

I believe that both of them have great balance.

Both of them were VERY strong (see: Beanie's pounding of the Washington DB, Mo's weight room squat record)

Beanie is faster than Mo. (see: Beanie has by far more runs of 30+ yards)

As for vision, I think Maurice was in a class by himself. Beanie has great vision, but makes some mistakes that you know Maurice wouldn't've. For instance, I recall two instances where we were 3rd and short, and Beanie would try to get more yards by bouncing outside the pile.

But Beanie's vision is getting better by each game.

So who would I take as my back?

Hahaha, I just don't know. I would say they're equally valuable.

As Frosh MoC was the better back hands down.

For every year after that until they die - Beanie wins in a landslide.

I'll stand by the above quote, because, as fans, we will be able to watch Wells' work for three years. If I may throw in my two cents, I think that MoC was the better football player, but Beanie is the better running back. Both had that great vision, the ability to make the big play, and a "piston" leg drive. If you run through the characteristics of a RB, I'd give the edge to Mo in blocking, receiving, and overall "football" type skills (ala the strip of Taylor). I'd give Beanie the edge in terms of speed, attacking the line of scrimmage, and maintaining composure within the framework of "the team." Like most Buckeye fans, I thought the emergence of MoC would be the catalyst of multiple national championship opportunities. Wells has already played in back to back national title games, and, with the talent returning, has a great shot to be in a third. Factor in a veteran O-line, a returning QB with a returning receiving corps, and Beanie has a chance to have one of those unforgettable seasons, thus ending this discussion.

I feel like Clarett had the potential but not the toughness.

You're on crack. Clarett played the last half of the season with a bad stinger. He also played the second half of the Indiana game after ripping open the stitches on his knee after it had been scoped. Clarett was plenty tough...

I think both are pretty tough, as both of them fought through injuries other Big 10 RB's didn't (like PJ Hill in the bowl game against Tennecheat). I went with Beanie just because he is a tad faster. I think Beanie would have made just as big of, if not bigger impact than MoC if Pittman wasn't in front of him. All MoC had at his position was Maurice Hall and Lydell Ross. On top of that, Beanie is a physical specimen and has a look on his face come gametime that is just scary. The look on his face after his TD in the NC game was frightening...he is a man on a mission. Great poll though and it's a good question.

Ditto. Despise Clarett for what he tried to do to Ohio State if you will, and I do, he played hurt and he played tough.

I was an MoC fan, but I don't know how much better he would've gotten. He had great instincts and vision and was (physically) tough. Wells, though, will continue to get better every year he's with us and thereafter. His improvement from freshman back-up to Vulvarene killer was more than remarkable. He will be better next year. Moreover, he has demonstrated mental toughness and focus that Mo didn't have and never would've developed. One either has that or doesn't. Beanie does.

MoC was sometimes great in 2002. I'd take Wells every day, every year.

As somebody who grauated with Clarett from Warren Harding in 2002, his situation is very saddening. I can't knock Beanie for traveling down the road that he's traveling, but Clarett was the most talented tailback of my time... period. On the field, he dominated from high school through college at a much higher degree than Beanie did.

People can say that Beanie had Pitt in front of him, but Clarett had Lydell Ross & Maurice Hall in front of him. Before you knock them, remember that people thought very highly of Ross before Clarett got there. The same can be said for Hall, who is still one of Ohio's (HS) all time leading rushers from what he did at Columbus Brookhaven.

When Clarett came in, you hardly heard anything else from them in 2002. They did decent against Cincinnati when Clarett wasn't there, but it wasn't the same. Whether you realize it or not, Clarett's presence brought the best out of everybody. That 2002 squad didn't have the star power on offense that 2007 did, but they were better in the long run because they had so many hungry leaders on that team. No, you can't just point the finger to one player for winning the 03 NCG, but they don't come close to that game w/out Clarett. That 02 Miami squad was considered one of the best ever, and they were far more hyped up than LSU is now. With so many players currently in the NFL today, you can see why.

Beanie will have the longer career, but Ohio State has never seen anything like Clarett, the first freshman to EVER start his first game at Ohio State.
