Mind-numbing thread of the week 11/28-12/2

Actually, I have to rule with the "chili isn't soup" contingent here. Soup, to me, requires a broth or cream base of some sort.
So what if I cook my chili with a beef broth base, and add tomato paste and beer?

Or if I make green chicken or pork chili with chicken stock and put the green chilis in a processor until they make a paste-like substance which is then added to the chili as a thickener and flavorizer?

How would you classify those?

Oh well, my favorite soups/stews/chilis are:
Green pork chili - great when skiing
cream of crab
Lobster bisque
tomato bisque

And those are in no particular order.

Campbell's Tomato with milk, with crumbled Ritz crackers (which I only buy for tomato soup). Even with the crackers, still have to have the grilled cheese sandwich, and it has to be cut corner to corner. If you don't do it right, it doesn't make all your problems go away. :) I'm not a big tomato fan either - used to dislike them thoroughly, now enjoy them now and then.

Homemade chili (NOT soupy), chicken soup, and well, any homemade soup is right up there.

My favorite "cold soup" has strawberries, oranges, milk, and mint... but who am I kidding, it's a smoothie in a bowl. :p

Type "Chili soup" into Yahoo and you get over 6 million hits.

It's a soup.

If not a soup then what would you call it?

this thread is hilarious.

I never said chili wasn't a soup. I said, I had never heard it called chili soup.

I don't know how I would classify chili. Enough with the labels, man.

I never really liked it. Growing up, my mom always used beans, I HATE BEANS.

What's your favorite kind of soup?

Mine is tomato with saltine crackers thrown in.

Funny thing is, I hate tomatoes.
No shit, that's funny. I like pretty much everything conceivable that you can make out of tomatoes, but I don't like sliced, raw tomatoes right off the vine either.

A can of Campbell's tomato soup with Town House crackers and two grilled-cheese sandwiches is one of my lunch favorites.

OK, what I like is a thick, red sauce based soup containing pulled beef, peppers, celery and kidney beans. Call it chili, call it cold, but don't call me late when it's on the menu.

I have a niece who makes a white chili, kind of like chowder except it has chicken, corn and some kind of afterburner, exit tracer, kicker hot stuff in it.

And a really good chowder or oyster stew makes winter go faster.
