If Mike Leach goes 6-6 for two consecutive seasons to start, technically, that's an improvement and the administration should be ecstatic.

Spring Practice for Wazzu should be interesting for the offensive players. It will be like Greek for some of them (although, that could also apply to Ohio State or any school w/ a new HC).

It's just the kind of out-of-the-way program he can bring some relevance too, just like he did at Texas Tech...I predict a lot of 7-5 seasons, bowl victories against good teams on down years, media threats, plank walkings, and sheddings. :banger:

Too bad it wasn't East Washington and their red turf.

Best of wishes to Mike Leach. I hope he rips up the Pac-12 and shows TT what they lost thanks to Craig "Mark May's White Brother" James. Wish he would of landed in the Big Ten at Minnesota or Illinois, though. I've always loved his offenses.

For those that don't have this book, I'd suggest getting it. Tells a lot about the guy and the struggles he had to go through to realise his dream of coaching football. Also has a couple of stories from his childhood in there that are hilarious.

"I've been accused a time or two of running up the score. People say "Well, the game's already been decided. Just kneel on the ball and call it a day." Screw that. I don't want the guys I send into the game thinking that way. Next year those third-team guys might be my starters. Heck, if we have an injury or two, they might become our starters next week."

"Regardless of the score, you've spent a long time teaching technique and lifting weights, and if there's some number three left guard in the game out there yucking it up, I will rip him."

"Do your job. that doesn't stop if you're down by 39 or up by 30. These are all valuable opportunities. You cannot just mail it it. How often do you get a chance to execute an onside kick?"

-Mike Leach

Take note, Pac12. Mike Leach will onside kick it on you if he's up by 30...

Mike Leach introduced as Washington State head coach

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) ? New Washington State coach Mike Leach said Tuesday that some people have been asking him why he wanted to take over a downtrodden program in a remote town in the Pacific Northwest.

His response?

"I think that's a stupid question," Leach said, drawing a roar from about 1,000 fans, players and marching band members at a rally where he was introduced on Tuesday. "You can win here and win big, I believe."

...

Leach will make $2.25 million per year in salary and other guaranteed income. His contract also includes bonus payments for things such as winning the Pac-12 championship or going to a BCS bowl that could push his pay to over $3 million. That includes $25,000 for winning the Apple Cup against archrival Washington.

Washington State could not have afforded Leach without revenue from a new Pac-12 television contract that will eventually pay each school up to $20 million per year, Moos said.

Cont'd ...

Not that Mike Leach was really saying anything beforehand, but I laugh at the clip of Scott Van Pelt interviewing Leach and right after Leach starts laying into Craig James and ESPN, Van Pelt quickly ends the interview.

Favorite Excerpt from Leach:
But when you have a national broadcaster, I think we all know who I?m talking about -- he thinks he?s going to be senator -- dissatisfied with his son?s playing time and used ESPN as a platform to fire a sitting head coach, then hired a PR firm before he even complains about everything, obviously there?s going to be some negative information passed around.

Perhaps SVP was worried that Leach would bring up the claim that CRAIG JAMES KILLED 5 HOOKERS WHILE AT SMU. Without CRAIG JAMES being in the studio to deny the claim that he KILLED 5 HOOKERS WHILE AT SMU. It would only further the controversy over the issue of whether CRAIG JAMES KILLED 5 HOOKERS WHILE AT SMU.
