Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

Leach's best career path might well be to coach at UNM for a couple of years to show once again he can win anywhere, let everyone forget all the nasty crap from TT, then move up to the kind of job he deserves.

I feel this way too. The kind of big time program that would take a chance on him raises questions about whether he should take a chance on them. Sometimes it is best to start over. UNM could be a good fit for him temporarily and get his name and reputation back.

I disagree entirely. Leach is probably the third best former college head coach currently not working, behind Urban and JT. He's proven that he can take a historically mid-pack BCS program to the highest levels of consistent success it's seen. There are many underperforming schools in the bigger leagues with the potential to rise with the right head coach. Between the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and even a few in the SEC, I could probably list a dozen programs that would be a better choice than going down to a very, very poor mid-major.

Honestly, I don't think he should even consider stepping down to the Big East or CUSA level. Maryland should have taken him last year, but there will be more openings.

That's the kind of job you settle for when you get fired for banging a stripper in a Pensacola hotel. Leach can do better than New Mexico. Hell, even Tyrone Willingham managed to land a second chance at Washington, even after all the stuff he was being blamed for.

If you get a chance, listen to his radio show. He and Jack Arute do a good show. It's on Sirius / XM, and I forget the channel number. (It's preset number 5 on my radio, so I don't need to know the number.) Same channel as Bill King's 24/7 Sports, Rivals Radio, and Paul Finebaum. Anyway, Mike Leach does an awesome job of telling it how it is.

Oh yeah - noon to 3:00pm, eastern time. He's on most days, but not all days. I think Fridays he often is traveling - isn't he a commentator for some channel on Saturdays? He might even do a post-game show Saturday evenings or Sundays or something, but I've never caught it.

It's channel 169 on XM. I agree, they are entertaining and pretty much unbiased, not to mention Leach's feelings toward ESPiN
I listen to the show as I am driving; my favorite part is when a caller is talking to Leach and he clearly didn't listen to a syllable and he attempts to respond. At least with Leach; you get what you get. He doesn't soften his views. He comes off as a little rough to deal with, but I find myself mostly agreeing with him.

Report: Mike Leach has agreement to coach Washington State

Mike Leach will be back on the sideline next season. Washington State reached a verbal agreement with the former Texas Tech coach one day after firing Paul Wulff.

According to a story by CBSSports.com, the deal is for five years and would make Leach the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12.

Leach, 50, was fired by Texas Tech in December of 2009 following a dispute over his handling of receiver Adam James. The son of ESPN announcer Craig James, Adam James claimed Leach forced him to sit in a construction closet during practice after suffering a concussion in a game.

He's gonna be pissin on dogs all over the damn place....

You have to wonder if UCLA, Arizona State, UNC and others were late on the draw, or if all felt they could do better than Mike Leach.

Wazzu certainly made a commitment.

The one thing I've always enjoyed about Mike Leach was the "Index Card" of offensive plays (most coaches have huge sheets). Also, finding the kicker during the half-time contest (Matt Williams).
