Michigan State Spartans (official thread)

Michigan AD: Police investigating scuffle after Michigan St. game

Michigan State president Samuel L. Stanley Jr. said in a statement that he is "extremely saddened" by the Spartan players' "unacceptable behavior" and that the players would be held responsible.

"I'm extremely saddened by this incident and the unacceptable behavior depicted by members of our football program," Stanley said in the statement released Sunday morning from the school. "On behalf of Michigan State University, my heartfelt apology to the University of Michigan and the student athletes who were injured.

"There is no provocation that could justify the behavior we are seeing on the videos. Rivalries can be intense but should never be violent.

"Coach Tucker will be holding the players involved responsible, and our football team and university will be cooperating with all related investigations by law enforcement and the Big Ten Conference."

The Big Ten said in a statement that it "is aware" of the incident and "is currently gathering information, will thoroughly review the facts, and will take appropriate action."

The Spartard swinging the helmet at the unhelmeted tsun player's head should be picked up for felonious assault and assault with a deadly weapon tonight. Disgusting. Sparty has sank so low that they've actually given tsun and Simple Jim the moral high ground.

Damn, Sparty. Get your shit together. This is unacceptable. Jim was actually not wrong when he said there should be charges.

Michigan State suspends Tank Brown, Khary Crump, Angelo Grose, Zion Young

Michigan State suspended four football players Sunday for their involvement in an altercation in the tunnel at Michigan Stadium on Saturday night after the team's loss to Michigan.

Coach Mel Tucker announced linebacker Tank Brown, cornerback Khary Crump, safety Angelo Grose and defensive end Zion Young have been suspended effective immediately after reviewing what Tucker called disturbing electronic evidence of the incident.

The four will remain suspended until all investigations are completed. Tucker didn't rule discipline for additional student-athletes going forward.

"We are currently working with law enforcement, Michigan State and Michigan campus leadership, and the Big Ten Conference to further evaluate the events in Ann Arbor," Tucker said in a statement. "Including, but not limited to, additional student-athlete participation in the altercation and contributing factors."

cornerbacks Justin White (2nd string) and Malcolm Jones are now suspended.

safety Angelo Grose
defensive end Zion Young (3rd string)
cornerback Khary Crump

Only 3 of the 8 are listed as starters. Still if they don't play this Saturday, it gives the Fighting Brets (who are already a 16.5 point favorite) an even better chance of winning.

I have been licking the wounds all week. I think my biggest issue is I may actually hate the SCum football team and I know the fan base I absolutely hate. The absolute need for them to act and think they are morally better than everyone else makes me nauseous and really a bit unhinged. So I realize that my overly emotional feelings towards all that is that football program makes me unable to see things in any reasonable or balanced way. With that out of the way let me say a few things.
1- Tucker is likely a good coach, he knows what it is supposed to look like and has the drive and ambition. I am not sure he has the coaching staff he needs (see the OC for one) and he may not have the school to make it happen. See Oregon and how no amount of money or marketing can make a program top tier overnight. MSU has some history of greatness and maybe just maybe they can build it but it is going to take lots of time.
2- SCum make me sick. I will just list some of the classier things they have done. Back with the fab 5 dinks Jalen Rose sat down and rubbed his ass on the Spartan S after a game, football drove a stake into the MSU field, football started a fight during pre-game at Spartan Stadium during the MSU walk through, football has a player spear MSU Qb at half and no ref does shite, football has players cleating and digging up dirt at midfield of Spartan Stadium before a game.....you can see a trend here.
3- MSU has a single tunnel and ZERO fights, while SCum has a single tunnel and has had a fight in it the last 3 big games OSU, PSU, MSU but yeah it is everyone else that is the problem and not that program.

As I have said ever since Coach D made it clear. It benefits no one for that program to be any good. Or for them to even win a game. I get it for tOSU. It is nice to have an end of season rivalry game and all that. But honestly with the college football playoff you have much bigger fish to fry. SCum has only every been a regional power. They have never been a National power post 1950 and pre it is extremely debateable but I will just focus on modern era since I was not alive pre-1970. So it is not like the nation is missing out on good football if they suck or not.
Also if Tucker can not close on a decent recruiting class then everything I said above that may have sounded nice will be withdrawn. Because his strength is/was supposed to be recruiting and right now the class is in serious jeopardy. We will see how he closes the next 4-6 months. But right now it is looking very thin.

Also beside the helmet swing the rest of the action in the tunnel bothers me not. Typical 19 year olds throwing some punches. Both SCum guys got into about 5-10 second scrums. And it was not 10 MSU players forming a ring and putting the boots to anyone. But regardless my point of this post is to say that I truly hope this goes to trial. Not criminal but they sue the MSU player/team because I have heard every police officer say that the issue 100% is with the SCum police and University for not creating a safe path. And that with the previous instances over the last 12 months removes any deniability on SCum part. There is no where to hide on this one for SCum. They will lose and lose bad in court. So I expect the player and lawyer to come out and say "we have decided to let the criminal charges speak to this issue". Kid might get some type of battery charge or he may get off due to no one wanting to prosecute this instance. Because if I am the family of the MSU kid I sue SCum for creating an unsafe environment for my child that caused the whole issue.
Yes the kid was way way way out of control swinging a helmet. But again we are talking legal shit and not common sense here.
