Michigan State Spartans (official thread)

Good for him!
Oh, for sure. Good for him.

But MSU just gave an enormous potential albatross contract to a guy who is 11-7 for them (16-15 overall). Yeah, he’s beat scUM back-to-back, but it’s Harbrau. In 2 games against tOSU, he’s been run 108-19. They might have just given a top-5 contract to a typically 8-5 coach. He ran off a 9-1 start this year against a pretty weak schedule.

Former Colorado running back Jarek Broussard transfers to Michigan State football program

Michigan State is adding running back Jarek Broussard, a Colorado transfer who won Pac-12 offensive player of the year honors in 2020.

Broussard, who entered the transfer portal Jan. 13, announced his commitment Sunday on Twitter. He led Colorado with 661 rush yards and two touchdowns on 142 carries in 2021. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Broussard, who is from Dallas, struggled with injuries early in his career but had a breakout season in 2020.

Michigan State is looking to replace All-America running back Kenneth Walker III, who won the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top tailback and ranked second nationally in both rushing average (136.3 yards per game) and rushing yards (1,636). Walker transferred to MSU from Wake Forest following the 2020 season.

MichSt is set to lose their entire OL, so I would err on the side of No.
And I also believe they got former Wisky RB, Jalen Berger in the transfer portal. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that run game slows down some(same with their offense as a whole).

Michigan State was one of the most surprising teams in the country last year. Mel Tucker sparked the Spartans to an 11-win season with some really impressive wins. But Tucker has no plans to slow down in 2022. Michigan State concluded an important spring with an open practice in front of thousands of fans.

"I just want to thank everyone for coming out," Tucker said. "The fans were great today. It was great to get back in The Woodshed. It was the first time for some of our guys to get in the stadium because we hadn’t been in there the entire spring.

"It was a good effort from our guys. We’re banged up on the offensive line but the guys who went out there and played gave a good effort and that’s what we wanted to see. We’re set up to have a really good summer program. We’re going to have some guys come in May to help the team."

ON MICHIGAN STATE'S CULTURE:

"Our culture is our foundation. That's how we live and behave every day. We get the most out of the opportunities we have because of how we handle our business. It’s a fun group to coach and I’m really excited about our mindset about getting better and not having a sense of entitlement. Having a chip on our shoulders and knowing that the behaviors and the actions that we take are going to create the outcomes.

"Our guys trust the process. I’m really excited about the buy-in that we have from our players. All of our staff and support staff are moving in the same direction. If you can do that with good people and a good culture, then you’re going to have success."

ON THE PROGRESS MICHIGAN STATE HAS MADE THIS SPRING:

“We’ve been working hard to become more of a player-led team as opposed to a coach-led team. That’s been a huge emphasis for us. For our guys to hold each other accountable and demand that we do things right. We've made some tremendous strides in that area. You can’t necessarily see it in a practice like today, but we see it every day in our meetings, our walk-throughs, in the weight room and in the practices.

"Guys are stepping up and taking ownership of this football team. The expectations and the standards are set so everyone knows what the deal is. It’s just a matter of getting it done. It’s not just myself or the coaches pulling guys and dragging guys through the process. Guys are embracing the process and pushing each other. We’re not where we need to be in that regard but we have made some tremendous strides this spring."

In case the point is lost here, let’s emphasize strongly that attitudes of skepticism towards victims like @Hstead and @OhioState001 are expressing is exactly what led to Nassar targeting over 150 victims for over a decade without repercussions.

And oh, by the way, a newspaper focusing on the story is what finally cracked the wall of silence and eventually ended Nassar’s free reign to abuse young girls and women.

Larry Nassar survivors seeking over $1 billion from FBI for not intervening in abuse

Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and dozens of other women who say they were sexually assaulted by Larry Nassar are seeking more than $1 billion from the FBI for failing to stop the convicted sports doctor when the agency first received allegations against him, lawyers said Wednesday.

There is no dispute that FBI agents in 2015 knew that Nassar was accused of assaulting gymnasts, but they failed to act, leaving him free to continue to target young women and girls for more than a year. He pleaded guilty in 2017 and is serving decades in prison.

"It is time for the FBI to be held accountable," said Maggie Nichols, a national champion gymnast at Oklahoma from 2017 to 2019.

Under federal law, a government agency has six months to respond to the tort claims filed Wednesday. Lawsuits could follow, depending on the FBI's response.

The approximately 90 claimants include Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney, all Olympic gold medalists, according to Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, a California law firm.

"If the FBI had simply done its job, Nassar would have been stopped before he ever had the chance to abuse hundreds of girls, including me," said former University of Michigan gymnast Samantha Roy.

Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics told local FBI agents in 2015 that three gymnasts said they were assaulted by Nassar, a team doctor. But the FBI did not open a formal investigation or inform federal or state authorities in Michigan, according to the Justice Department's inspector general, an internal watchdog.

Los Angeles FBI agents in 2016 began a sexual tourism investigation against Nassar and interviewed several survivors but also didn't alert Michigan authorities, the inspector general said.

Nassar wasn't arrested until fall 2016 during an investigation by Michigan State University police. He was a doctor at the school.

The Michigan attorney general's office ultimately handled the assault charges against Nassar, while federal prosecutors in Grand Rapids, Michigan, filed a child pornography case. He is serving decades in prison.
