Michigan Coaching Speculation

I don't know why folks think RR would have problems with the pressure at Michigan. I don't think they play any games of the same magnitude and historical significance as WVU-Pitt.

Good point, just ask a Neer fan, oh no wait, you don't need to ask, they'll just tell you.

I've got to admit that playing in front of half empty 50-60,000
seat stadiums in the Big Least would surely prepare you to play in front of 100,000+ in Cbus or Happy Valley, and I'm sure 85,000 fans jumping up and down making Camp Randall rock (besides throwing battery seeded marshmallows) would not be at all intimidating specially considering how he stays calm in the big games. (sorry sarcasm font was down for maintenance )

I would dare say that the ASU game was on an equal par???

I don't remember Coop flopping around like RR does but maybe it's like the trauma doctors tell you, your mind blocks out things too traumatic for you to handle  You are right about Coop getting tight, you could see it in his body language and mannerisms. I don't remember Coops gyrations quite so demonstrative, maybe he was just more classy in his choking.

I remember so many games I wondered how Coop managed to blow it....

Coop just went into a semi coma but there was no mistaking that "oh shit" look of his.

RR reminds me somewhat of a smaller Tommy Boy wigging out over on the sidelines.

Like I said, I'll be estatic if they land him.

After reading some of the threads in Irish Eyes (about how losing stopped hurting because they expected it) I remembered the same feelings when Coop was here, you just knew his teams would find a way to lose when they were up, or disappoint you during a comeback.

I don't want any true College Fball fan to go through that (with the exception of scUM fans and of course Ntre ame fans) (sorry about that we know the followers of those programs aren't true College Fball fans, just historians)

All the more reason to say Thank You Andy, Jim, and Thad :oh::io:

Agreed Jax, unless I misread RR he would be perfect for scUM (if you're a Buckeye fan )

Well put about Coop's comatose stare and "oh shit" expression, he got the look and the fan base just said it.

After taking it as far as he did last year I can't conceive he would pull the same stunt - or that WVU would fall for it.

And as for making "compromises" to get recruits, I agree he wont have to. But isn't that a character issue? (If I had Brad Pitt's looks I probably wouldn't carry the date rape drug around in my billfold - but I would be no less a scumbag.)
There are always going to be recruits who can take you to a higher level and who need just a little something extra to sign the LOI.

You want to win big at WVU prior to this stretch you luck out and find a hidden gem or you take the risks to win big. If he wasn interested in the Mr. Smith goes to Washington style of running a program he'd be at Duke. Some of these kids probably deserved a second chance, plenty of them probably have turned the corner. Pac Man was a good citizen at WVU. College football is a cutthroat business.

Will the Wv fans and players say good riddance ?
From mgoblog;

WV Gazette:
The Rich Rodriguez era at West Virginia ended early Sunday afternoon, not with a bang, but with a whimper. In an early afternoon meeting with his football team, Rodriguez announced he was leaving to become the head coach at Michigan.
Rodriguez walked into a scheduled 1:30 p.m. meeting with his team and emerged 10 minutes later without comment and walked briskly back to his office. Shortly thereafter the players began to file out of the meeting room, somber-faced and generally without comment.
Rodriguez reportedly met with Michigan officials this past Friday in Toledo, Ohio.

I'll just say right now that RR to scUM is like John L to MSU.

Both coaches have a history of augmenting the fundamental problem's the new school was struggling with.

scUM needs a few more years of becoming physically softer and more finesse. They need a few more years of a fundamental lack of focus on defense because the emphasis of the program is on its scheme oriented offense(can'rt wait to see Mallet flourish in the spread). They need a few more years to get to WVU was in terms of spitting the bit in any big game because they are wound up so tight. Also if you watched some of the games WVU won(UC specifically) they usually tried their best to give that one away with late TO's and crucial mistakes. Best of all if its true you are talking 5-10 years before they can dump him.

I'm absolutely delighted if this is true.
I hope you're right. I think RRod is a way better hire than Miles.....but I drink grad's kool-aid :p

The first match between JT and RR starts immediately. The prize is Pryor.

Clearly we have the edge. But it is all about "sales" and the buyer in this case is a teenager. The point about what RR is willing to do to land recruits may become immediately relevant.

I didn't like seeing that he immediately added scum to his list
