One of the factors affecting this impression of Miles and the on-again, off for certain, on again, off for certain dance is how reminiscent it is of the situation that preceded the Alamo Bowl.
That was held on Wednesday 29th December 2004.
On Monday Miles was asked in a presser about rumors he was being asked by the Tigers about interest in the LSU job.
His response ..
On Monday, before Oklahoma State's practice session at Alamo Heights High School, Miles was asked about the LSU situation. "I am preparing to play in a bowl game," he replied. "I want no distractions for my football team. I'm not looking around."
Sound familiar?
Next in timeline a report of a phone interview between Miles and LSU. This was published in the Oklahoman (probably by that bastion of food science Jenni Carlson for all I know - sadly the article has been pulled, probably to make space on the server).
Sound familiar?
Lastly you have the Miles name dropping below the radar for 24 hours and then resurfacing on the 31st December, then becoming solid as a rock in the first week of January.
So, Nutriaitch, when you say that Miles wasn't evading the issue of interviews in the ESPN article you are right. Of course, that was after the Bowl Game which his team, perhaps distracted, or perhaps due to the coach's distracted coaching, lost when they came in a 4 point favorite in Texas. Of course, that was after he first did in fact deny reports of any contact between himself and LSU, which were determined to be true reports.
Sound familiar?
Les Miles may in fact be telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Due to his past evasivenesses, when facing a similar situation, can you see why some already doubt his word?
