Michigan Coaching Speculation

I have to give you rep for that. There is, of course, a BIG difference between Andy Geiger and the idiot sitting in his position in Ann Arbor. No, the rep wouldn't be for that. It would be for reminding us what a total prat that Dennis Dodd is.

Andy Geiger has officially botched the Ohio State coaching search. Someone had to say it, though it isn't hard to draw that conclusion 13 days after John Cooper was fired.
The supposed top candidate, Glen Mason, hasn't heard from the Ohio State athletic director in almost a week. The early favorite, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, clearly thinks his star has risen above Ohio State. He shot down Buckeye rumors almost immediately after his name came up after the Orange Bowl. Stoops at least played long-distance footsy with the Cleveland Browns over the weekend until ending speculation.

Couldn't agree more. Oh, and speaking of prats... I uncovered this little time capsule on that same bit of Googling. Ah, the Internet never forgets...

Memo to Ohio State AD Andy Geiger

This is a slap in the face to any knowledgable Ohio State football fan. If you have not heard already the new coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes is Jim Tressell. Who is by the way, the former YOUNGSTOWN STATE coach. Wow. OSU is really flexing its muscle by hiring a division 2 coach. Real impresive, it was also brilliant making it seem as though we would actually be getting a REAL COACH with talks of Bob Stoops and John Gruden. There is a reason why Jim Tressell is a division 2 coach. And what is amazing even more to me, is that these moron sports fans here in Ohio, are totally buying into the pick. Even though before this whole mess started up, nobody knew who he was. They just go by what they hear and cant even form their own opinion. I would rather have John Cooper back than this guy. This is ridiculus. Why dont we just give the University of Michigan a 20 dollar bill and a whip because we will be their $2 skank for the next decade. If Chris Speilman is not on this staff, I think I will totally go insane. But of course they wont, because Ohio State wants to continue its long tradition of mediocrity. I am fed up with all the Ohio Sports teams outlook that they can squek by with mediocrity and a "it was a good year" attitude. That is why Ohio hasnt won jack in 40 years.
I earnestly hope that the current and similarly vitriolic posts from our frustrated fan base look equally silly in a few years.

Edited to add... granted, this probably looked pretty stupid at the time it was posted, too, but you get my drift.

my money is still on English, though that doesn't mean i think he's the right guy (for tsun).

things just seem too calm on the surface, and i don't think AD Martin is just hanging out at the beach oblivious to how important it is to advance this process.

the reason the influential scUM alums are losing sleep is probably because they're not happy with English being the default choice to replace Carr, but don't want to complain for fear of being labeled as bigots.

That thread is full of win, this quote is great too:
Wow, what a difference 24 hours make. I live over here relatively close to the Oakland area and most of yesterday a lot of people here were already panicking about Gruden going to Ohio State.

I can tell that many a Raider fan are relieved that it looks like Gruden is staying with the Raider nation for now.

Wish I knew. Apparently he pissed Carr off or something, I don't know

From what I've read, *ichigan was not impressed with Kelly's handling of an incident in 2003. While Kelly was head coach at Central *ichigan, some of his players stomped a person to death in a fight. Kelly gave his players advice that was solid from a legal point of view but questionable from an ethical point of view. Something to the effect of: Answer all questions truthfully but don't offer up anything unless you're asked. Alledgedly, *ichigan felt the players should be asked to do anything they could to help the authorities involved with the case.

This information came from a blog so I can't vouch for it's accuracy.

This fallacy that scUM and Carr are a bunch of saints just has to end.

Was it Edwards or Jackson that put some 98lb weakling student in the hospital and missed a half a game because St Carr said he didn't use a bottle?

How much time did Arrington miss for beating a woman?

I forget the name of the scUM player that liked to jerk off in public.

Go watch tape of the 2002 Game and watch loveable 'ol Carr scream and make a complete ass of himself toward officials even when his team got the call.

Remember what a shit fit he threw about the Nike camps so they couldn't be held in Columbus anymore?

I know everyone is wanting to think of him as some loveable old uncle but Carr was, and I'm quite sure still is, a complete prick imo. I'm glad he's going out as a complete disgrace.

You nailed it there. I think (whiny school yard bitch) Lloyd is the main problem in this search. They had to cross off two good coaches from the list b/c whiny ass can't be a professional and get past his old beefs with them. And I can guarantee that Lloyd eventually being the AD had something to do with Wood Chopper and Les turning that job down.

You'll excuse me if I'm more than a tiny bit skeptical.

Martin has already turned what should have been a simple yes-or-no proposition into a fiasco of national proportions by being rigidly by-the-unwritten-book in terms of dealing with other schools. To believe that Miles will bolt for Michigan after the NC game is to either 1) believe that Martin will put the whole process on hold for over a month or 2) believe that Martin flipped a bitch on his tactics and is already going straight for the jugular. Given that he's been having conversations with Greg Schiano and Brady Hoke (among others (I hope)) and that LSU's next game is bigger than the one Martin wouldn't meddle with in the first place, I still don't buy any of it.

I think a coach will be in place before the NC game, and I think I will be disappointed with the result.

I would be shocked if Spurrier goes anywhere. Most people don't realise that a major resason he's at USC is the perk of being a member at the Masters in Augusta (thanks to Hottie). He just wants to play golf and call some plays without the intense presssure. USC was seling out their stadium when they were winning 1 game a year.

FOSTER: U-M's clumsy coaching search threatens to damage program's reputation

TerryFoster.jpg

Be very careful my friends. One of our rites of passage -- winning football at the University of Michigan -- might disappear.
Like one of those buildings downtown where someone slaps a "Demolished by Neglect" sign on it as years of weather and age tear away at the structure, Michigan football slowly is crumbling into just another program.
However, Michigan's program can be revived. It simply needs a shot in the arm and the old heads who run the program must realize the old way no longer is the bold way.
The Wolverines have been exposed as bumbling idiots as they do their best impression of the Keystone Cops in trying to replace outgoing coach Lloyd Carr.

Continued.......
