Michigan Coaching Speculation

Would one of you guys mind telling me what exactly mgoblog means when the following is written:

"Tressel, OTOH, is interesting: that move would be the Machiavellian genius I now, sadly, expect from Tressel whenever Michigan blunders into his path."

I can't read into it whether he is bashing Tressel or being self-depricatingly funny.

He's saying Tressel is cunning in his ways of sabotaging UM. Police dogs, Burgess arrest warrant, magic shoes (06), etc. He's trying to add 'Tressel leaking Miles hire to Herbie' to the list.

I posted it in the other thread on this topic but knowing that scUM fans are blaming this on JT is just pure gold. He is so firmly in their collective heads they think he just torpedoed their chances of landing the guy who would take them to the promised land.

They are getting to be PSU level delusional in searching for some external force to blame for their programs sad state of affairs.

I love it.

I had thought, at first glance, that this guy was just joking around. But apparently, you both have seen enough to determine that he's not. To which I say, "Holy Shit".

Wait - that's it, Jay Paterno to TSUN, a massive coronary for the Ann Arbor whorehouse, hope rising in Happy Valley. Leak it through Ron Cook at a PittsburghLive.com.

Till the report is retracted 48 hours later after it is independently revealed by Beano Cook that Jay was not happy with Martin's pre-emptive offer of $9 / hour, and all the Oreo's he could eat, to sweep the floor in Schembechler Center.

In fairness I'd state that sort of tinfoil-fueled thinking isn't limited to any one fan base, however it's beyond obvious a certain segment of ours doesn't do the rational Michigan faithful any favors when asserting the utterly ludicrous. In this case it's just exacerbated by the weekend's sequence of events and unfortunate numbers are busting out all sorts of conspiracy theories while still in full-blown Chernobyl mode. It'll subside, just not soon enough.

Wish I could administer some much-needed thorazine to the chronic sufferers though. Last I checked, JT doesn't smoke.

I actually enjoy reading mgoblog, but since Carr left they have gone a little over the edge there. M-Zone seems to be a little more reasonable but they seem to be very pessimistic. I think it just comes down to a lot of confusion from tsun fan, I think most thought they would have anyone they wanted parachuting from the sky to get the job. The key thing to remember is that there are a lot of jobs opening up, and it's bowl season, so a lot of coaches will decide what they want to do in January.

Although pretty much all members of the media are lacking in the brains department :tongue2:, even Mark May would realize that no one would be willing to pay Jay $9 let alone cover his Oreo fix:biggrin:

If I had a merciful bone in my body toward scUM fans I would tell them we went through the same things after Coop was fired. I would tell them to trust their AD to run a thourough and comprehensive search to find the right guy and not just grasp over big known names. I would tell them to get over themselves(just like we had to) the program is down, the pressure is high and its hard to get a big name coach to come to campus.

I would tell them all these things but where is the fun in that? Instead I prefer..............

I have it on good authority from someone who would know that JT and Herbie cooked up the whole thing....they were terrified of Les Miles coming to AA and just fucked you guys out of the best coach in America. LOL111!!!

What you have stated above is why I thought, upon first read, that this was all stated in jest. I completely concur that it's a shame that you have this contingent that forgot what the pudding above the brain stem is really supposed to be used for.

Bingo. Seeing the perceived (but far from the portrayed "lock") #1 candidate suddenly disappear from the picture caused some panic. Your average fan is also in a much larger hurry than our AD to fill the open slot, and few actually took his publicly-expressed criteria to heart anyway (nor do they grasp his methodology). One side effect of the resulting uncertainty is unfortunately lots of silly behavior. Expect more before it's over.

With all the coaching changes made last year, I can't really think of many if any viable candidates to TSUN. Some obscure coach may come out of this but it's not looking that way. They would love to find another Jim Tressel but they do not grow on trees. I can't remember who said it on this board but they missed out on the best possible choice and that was D'Antonio last year.

?????????? Miami was in the Big 10? That's the issue. No Big 10 school has ever hired a head coach from another Big 10 school. Hiring a coach from a MAC school is quite a bit different than hiring the coach away from a sister school. That's why Parshigian went to Notre Dame, no big 10 team was going to take him from Northwestern. This is not the SEC.

try reading my post in context:

yeah, but Bo was the HC at Miami when TSUN went out and got him. not a small difference...

which means that there's a BIG difference between TSUN hiring Kirk Ferentz away from Iowa and TSUN hiring Bo away from Miami.

This whole thing has unraveled for TSUN in a manner no less dramatic, ill-timed and mishandled than the ND search that led to this ...

Somewhere in that state up north, somebody shivers ... :)
