Michigan Coaching Speculation

DetNews

A Done Deal Dies
The news that Les Miles is remaining with LSU is shocking to everybody, even some of his closest friends.
I was on the phone with one of Miles' boys Saturday morning and he was telling me some of the names Miles was bringing to Michigan. He sounded excited as ESPN reported this to be a done deal. The details were exciting and it sounded like Michigan was breaking the mode of Bo Schembechler and Lloyd Carr and doing something that would make this an elite program again.
We hung up and he called me back 15 minutes later and said there has been a major snag. LSU had sweetened the offer and he said that Miles had second thoughts. Money was the major factor but there was something else Miles got a bad vibe about.

Cont'd...

Would anyone have believed him if he had said he wasn't going anywhere? This is the SEC we're talking about. Nick Saban was SO NOT A CANDIDATE at Alabama, denied it three times before the cock crowed and ended up in Tuscaloosa anyway.

Les Miles had / has a chance to show that he isn't like Nick Saban. If he had come out right away saying that he is not leaving LSU, I believe that this morning's situation would not have happened. Of course, maybe that's what he was aiming for - didn't he get a new contract from LSU?

There is already plenty of bad blood between Dantonio & UM. Why not ask if Jay Leno will be hired as the promoter for Larry David's next campaign, or Dennis Dodd for OSU SID?Dantonio is not a better candidate than Brian Kelly imo. Kelly has accomplished more as a HC, and would have a better shot of stealing Ohio kids imo.

The prospect of Brian Kelly as scUM coach gives me the heebie jeebies.

He was keeping LSU in the spotlight just in case what happened yesterday (both Missouri and West Virginia losing) did happen...now the pollsters have no other team but LSU in their heads as they vote today. If LSU jumps teams in the polls, it'll be because of Miles...

Didn't Miles vehemently deny the fact that he was going to take the LSU job when at Oklahoma State immmediately before the bowl game (where we Spanked him)?

I think Miles has already proven that he is a "Saban". I'd love for such a scumbucket to get the scUM job. Besides I think he is a poor coach in the fact that he doesn't prepare his troops and maximize talent. I'd love to see him underachieve at Michigan.

mgoblog's blog comments (paraphrased):

Miles talked to his UM guys last night, still wanting to come. Presser was reactionary and defending his current team.

Martin & Miles agent chatted today, but UM wants someone cheap. Likely now over with LM. Problem is, their other main candidates are being well compensated at lesser jobs.

Take this one report FWIW. Lots of vicious twists and turns in this one already.

he didn't say he was leaving before he didn't say he was staying... clearly with all that's at stake, the last thing Miles would attempt to do all of a sudden is adopt a policy of honesty and full-disclosure. Les "Kerry" Miles.

Pelini's probably got some idea what's about to go down with miles after jan 7th.

remember... Miles' new LSU contract still isn't signed.

From MGoBlog comments:

Mary Sue has NOTHING to do with this at this point. Once Bill Martin got permission to talk, it is all a series of prescribed dance steps in this prom. However, someone on the Michigan side just spiked the punch, Kirk F. Herbstreit got bombed and puked all over the prom queen.

Now who knows what will happen?
