Michael Irvin (official thread)

Michael Irvin was just doing what he always does...make bad jokes. He thought it was a funny joke.

I've always wondered what he is doing with gigs on ESPN and talking to Dan Patrick on the radio. Michael Irvin is just a drug-addled embarassment...but this situation is not really anything out of the ordinary by his standards. His tongue was in his cheek. He's not smart enough to say anything worthwhile, so he resorts to the outrageous. That's his schtick.

Exactly. Michael Irvin is an ignorant person...his race has nothing to do with it.

"Ignorant" is putting it lightly.

The thing about Irvin that pisses me off the most is that he has no credibility or intergrity. He defends the selfish tirades and antics of Terrell Owens, but attacks Tiki Barber, calling him selfish for announcing his retirement in the middle of the season. Let's see: TO vs. Tiki. Who deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to class and leadership between the two? According to Irvin, apparently its TO.

And he wonders why he won't get in the Hall of Fame, even though his accomplishments on the field may have warranted induction.

That, and getting arrested every year he has been eligible so far. Wonder what "friends" will get him in trouble this year :shake:

He's also at the worst position to try and get into the HOF right now, because a lot of above-average but not outstanding receivers with gaudy numbers are out there with him. He may merit induction, but he may not get in until the last few times he is eligible...and never if he can't stay out of trouble.

...but those double standards go both ways.

This is the first I've heard of Irvin's comments.

If ESPN applies a similar standard to the one they used to fire Harold Reynolds, we can look forward to his dismissal.

But for some reason, I don't think that will happen.

Is ESPN on the verge of cutting ties with NFL analyst Michael Irvin?

One industry source believes the decision has already been made, and that some at the network view the outspoken Irvin as a ticking time bomb, ready to explode into a public-relations nightmare.
ESPN did not confirm or deny the report, but issued a statement, saying: "We are currently in the process of discussing studio assignments for next season." There is speculation that newly retired Bill Parcells could end up at the network, but there is no indication that a deal is imminent.

One can only hope it happens.

NFL analyst Michael Irvin no longer with ESPN

ESPN.com news services

ESPN announced that Michael Irvin, who had been an NFL analyst for ESPN since 2003, is no longer with the network.
ESPN Communications Vice President Josh Krulewitz issued a statement, saying "We thank Michael for his contributions to ESPN and wish him well."
Irvin retired in 2002 after 12 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during Super Bowl festivities two weeks ago.

Well, that entire studio should be on the unemployment line. I'm getting tired of Boomer doing the Bengals' highlights and Marino the Dolphins. Just because they are former football players doesn't mean they don't suck. They're terrible.

Give me a crew of Ron Jaworski, Howie Long and Tom Jackson. I don't understand why there has to be a moron on each show.

I think its because someone back in the day created the institution of having former players do color commentary. Then someone else really screwed the pooch and made them analysts. Either way you are set up for failure because your drawing your on air talent from a pool of people who by and large aren't the smartest or well spoken fuckers to ever live.

Tom Jackson and Howie should be the only ones allowed to talk about football on any show, on any network, period. I can live with Morts insider stuff but thats the only exception that comes to mind right now.

Glad he's gone. During the Super Bowl coverage and his election to the Hall of Fame when he spoke of his induction he said several times, "Well, when I won three Super Bowl's", sorry Mike you didn't win those by yourself. But he now can say," When I got canned from ESPN."
