Game Thread Miami (FL) at tOSU, Sat Sep 11, 3:40 ET, ESPN

The Canes are a very serious threat this year...but if you didn't expect a backlash when a visiting fan predicts scoring 30+, sacking Pryor 5 times, and essentially dominating a game, you haven't been paying attention around here. There hasn't even been any trashtalk...homertalk, but not trash

This discussion has been timid, at best, compared to the old Grassy/Scout conversations of 8 years ago.

I expect a hearty rebuttal to any of his hyperbolic posts; he is asking for it at that point.

I'm just not a fan of painting Miami as a "middle of the road" ACC team, even with our contentious history. It's reacting to 87cane's hyperbole with hyperbole of our own.

Gator you pointed out one of The U's more embarrassing moments. Well I thought everyone might enjoy one of the Gator's more embarrassing moments. Enjoy!!!!!:)
Nah - that was the Genesis of SpurDog's seeing the light, and bringing in Stoopsy to form the more aggressive D that took us to the promised land the next year.

I was at that game. All I could do was lead my "Hit her again... hit her again... harder, HARDER" cheer when Tommie took the field.

The only thing keeping me from thinking this will be a beatdown for the Canes is the Bucks general trend to under-perform early in the year - especially the o-line. We routinely struggle against vastly inferior teams (Navy, Ohio, Marshall, NC State, Washington, Cincy...) and lose many of the "big time" games (USC, USC, Texas). The only early game I can remember in recent memory thinking we played up to potential is the Texas game in 2006... maybe the WSU game in 2002, but that's about it. Miami SHOULDN'T be up to the Buckeyes' caliber, but we always struggle early in the year.

They finished 3rd in the ACC Costal division with a 5-3 conference record that tied them for 5th best overall in the 12 team league. They played in (and lost) a middle of the road Bowl game to a middle of the road B10 team.

If T5th out of 12 isn't middle of the road, what is it?

The Cane fans are a confident bunch I will give them that....I just had a Time Warner repair guy over and he noticed my OSU themed room and commented that "you must be from Ohio." He went on to say that we are going to get a rude awakening the second week of September. It took me a second to understand what he was talking about until he started on the revenge angle. Forget the fact that that game was 7+ years ago and the oldest guy on the canes would have been a freshman in high school.....

He went onto say that "they" are going to rely on their recruiting class (which are now juniors) to start dominating people.....

My response: We have a had a couple of great recruiting classes and unless Michael Irvin, Bernie Kosar and Jonathan Vilma (although he is still in the pros) are going to rediscover the "fountain of youth" and come out of the stands that is a very bold thing to say.

I asked him why he thought that way. I was expecting something like our DL will dominate, or something along those lines. Nope, I was wrong....
his rejoiner....

We have been waiting for this for since the NC game and there will be "no Terry Porter to save you." Really, I could have waxed about the block in the back on the punt return, or the legal in-bounds chain moving catch Gamble made, or even the fact that perhaps it wasn't interference but it was at the least defensive holding in the end zone, but I realized I was dealing with a Cane fan who is beyond reasoning. So I invited him into the room and showed him the pictures of the last play, the trophy and all the pics of the celebration instead. Revenge indeed.....

I don't disagree with the statement, but there was a lot more that went wrong in the 1st U$C game than just offensive line play...

Wingate, trust me, my uncle still brings it up. I've even shown him the article where it was called one of the ten best calls in sports. Needless to say, I'm still wrong and he's still an ass. Some things never change

Since 2005 the Buckeyes weak spot has been up front on the Oline....In the big games we have played in over the last 4years we have had a lot of trouble against fast athletic front 7s.last year we improved a lot.....this years Oline could be one of the best groups we have had in a very long time. Early in the year it is very important to have an oline that can dominate while the skill position players can get back into the flow of playing in a big game and get their feel back. Miami is fast and athletic up front, BUT we will be able to match up with them very well and pick your poison on who runs the ball for OSU...Pryor Saine Herron Hyde Berry Hall! Classic:osu:

I know it sounds bad cause I'm on a message board about football, but I hate talking about these games because it just makes me want it to happen right now...

Reading thru this stuff is getting me psyched up.

Anyways, I'll give a much more basic opinion and just say that Ohio State should be the better team and that's all... If we do what we're supposed to do and play our game then we should win.

That's the general theme for all the games we play this year.

Yup. I was thinking the same thing as I was typing that post. I'm not worried, I'm confident. If we do what we're supposed to do and take care of business, we'll find ourselves sitting pretty at the beginning of next year.

We ought to beat Miami. We are the better team. So just go out and execute the gameplan and win the game.

And Nebraska finished tied for 5th place of the Big 12 in 2008. Teams change, and the Hurricanes were a team comprised of talented freshman and sophomores last year. They are a good bet to improve over the next two seasons.

Caricaturing them as average may appeal to the fandom part of the brain, but it isn't accurately measuring the amount of talent that will be on the field in September.

with the questions Miami has on their offensive line (not good at all with a QB who is very mistake prone under pressure)

I dont see any reason to believe they will be any better than last season offensive wise
