Game Thread Miami (FL) at tOSU, Sat Sep 11, 3:40 ET, ESPN

I would also say that the 33-14 Washington game was uninspiring. I remember trailing in that game before a blocked field goal put some spark into the team. None of those first three games were up the standards of a National Champ Game team (which is obviously what the Bucks were in November).

If JH didn't have 17INTS what would people have to say
I'm so sick of reading all the articles and pre season predictions and hearing about how "things look positive for the canes as long as JH cuts down on the INT's"

And then you hear from the "not so educated college football fans" They are quick to tell you they know alot about UM but all they talk about is the 17INT's

Look I don't like the 17INT's either but you would think that someone would bring up that the Dude was a first year starter, with a new OC, NEW system. Then there is the fact that he played 3/4 of the season with a torn ligaments in his thumb. Not an excuse it is what it is but you have to factor that.

Not many want to talk about the 3,300 yards and the fact that in the big games like GT, OU, FSU the dude was $$$$ he is a big time player and shows up in BIG TIME GAMES. That has been proven.

I like JH with a year under his belt and an offseason to sit with Whipple and figure out how to take over the world. People that study college football know that guys like Whipple and JH think about those pic's every day in the offseason and have already made sure that won't happen again.

But if they didn't happen what would people talk about. They might have to talk about how dominant UM will be and thats just not as much fun.

gotta love the "what if" scenarios, people just use the 17 int argument because they are biased Miami bla bla bla, wtf are you supposed to think of a QB who led his conference in INTs?

While it's a little early for any detailed breakdown, here's a few things I'll be looking for:

1. QB play - it's already been brought up in this thread, but the QB who doesn't make the critical turnover, and is able to make plays to keep drives alive, should win the game.
2. Offensive Line play - whichever team can do what they normally don't do best, should win. If the Bucks can establish a passing game, I like their chances. If Miami gets the run game going, they will be very tough to stop. If they become one dimensional, Heacock is in the driver's seat.
3. Secondary play - the Bucks need to get open downfield. I'm guessing that UM will try to put an extra guy in the box, to help shut down the run, maybe spy Pryor in passing situations. If Miami's corners are able to shut down the outside guys, we'll see how much TP has progressed in his downfield reads. Conversely, the Bucks DB's cannot give up the big play. Make Harris throw underneath, see if they are patient enough to sustain drives.
4. Return game - same concept. No turnovers for tOSU, no big returns for them. Make them play on a long field.
5. The "Stars" - while I'm a big believer in the team concept, there are some games when you need guys to be difference makers. Games like this are why you are still a Buckeye, Cameron Heyward. You want to be the next Buckeye to win the Heisman? The road starts here, Terrelle Pryor. Tired of being overlooked, Ross Homan? A bunch of tackles and a nice pick should bring you the recognition you deserve.

While the Bucks have traditionally been slow starters, I'm hoping that having a veteran O-line and a more experienced QB will speed things up. Should be a fun one to watch. Of course, if sitting on your couch with your heart pounding as the Bucks grind out a close win is your idea of fun...

As my original post stated, the only exception was 2006. But thanks for restating for me.

Bullshit. Here's your post I quoted, verbatim:

Absolutely agree. I just have become accustomed to being underwhelmed in the Bucks' performance in Septembers under JT. The unit that sticks out more than any is the O-line, but the entire team doesn't show up in full force until October usually. Expecting this year to be any different is nearly the definition of insanity... doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Buckeyes struggle in September. This game is in September. Therefore, I'm not going to get too cocky.

Screw Michigan.

Show me where you mentioned 2006...

The only thing keeping me from thinking this will be a beatdown for the Canes is the Bucks general trend to under-perform early in the year - especially the o-line. We routinely struggle against vastly inferior teams (Navy, Ohio, Marshall, NC State, Washington, Cincy...) and lose many of the "big time" games (USC, USC, Texas). The only early game I can remember in recent memory thinking we played up to potential is the Texas game in 2006... maybe the WSU game in 2002, but that's about it. Miami SHOULDN'T be up to the Buckeyes' caliber, but we always struggle early in the year.

Unless you mean a different 2006. :p

That's not the post I quoted. Plus, in the post you reference he mentioned one specific game in 2006 and didn't state that 2006 was the only season that we didn't struggle early. I can read and comprehend English, despite not having a law degree.

I'm sorry. I thought you said "show me where (he) mentioned 2006..."

I always pictured Honu as a bit older. HA!

But yes, Honu, the Texas game in which the Bucks played well in was 2006. I figured that was obvious, but maybe that's a bad assumption on my part. I'll be clearer next time...
