Malik McDowell (DL Cleveland Browns)

Unspecified "sources" - probably just telling me what I want to hear:

maybe the Buckeyes could still land their fifth offensive lineman — or third defensive lineman — in the 2014 from class from Southfield? Yes, McDowell could absolutely fill either role for the Buckeyes in the future and that's one of the things that makes the 247Sports.com composite five-star so intriguing as he prepares for his visit this weekend. My sources say that Urban Meyer made a significant impression on not just McDowell — but also with key members of his family — during Monday's visit and that the Buckeyes are more of a threat than they're being given credit for. Getting McDowell on campus this weekend will give Larry Johnson and the Buckeyes' staff a chance to make things interesting.

As of right now, I'm cautiously optimistic that not only will Jamarco Jones remain a Buckeye, but that Malik McDowell could join him, despite the fact that most people feel the Buckeyes are a distant third behind Michigan State and Florida State for McDowell's signature. Ohio State could end up adding McDowell and New Jersey athlete David Njoku after this weekend's official visits, so stay tuned as alway

I've never considered MM a realistic opportunity so maybe he could be the big surprise this year. Not an "off the radar" surprise but a surprise for sure. There are a lot of selling points with tOSU for Malik if he looks at it with open eyes. Whether he plays on the OL or DL his coach would be top notch. Great academics, a HC with more NC's than any school he is considering and a depth chart on the OL that is just as attractive as any school he is considering if that is his future. Would be absolutely unreal if we kept Jamarco on board and signed Malik and Njoku.

That would almost be like keeping Ezekiel Elliott and adding Dontre Wilson, James Clark, and Vonn Bell. Almost

MD- Do you think there is a legit chance here beyond the "get him on campus and you never know..." I assume havin both parents there is a good sign.

Getting both parents to come along is huge, as Malik isn't the only one that needs to be recruited. Couple weeks ago I said no chance.....there's definitely a chance now.

Since Malik is from a state north of us, his designated recruiter is Coombs. Last year there were clips of Coombs spouting off average SAT scores, etc. If his parents were trying to steer him to MSU-AA, it could have been because of academics (Harvard of Ann Arbor). Then I know that Urb has the whole job thing down, with career education etc.

Just wishin' Urb could close.

Do not underestimate both parents coming. The general school of thought here is that mom likes UM or FSU. Dad likes MSU. Could OSU be the compromise? We shall see. Word is mom did not have a great unofficial the last time she was in town. I imagine a point of emphasis will be making sure she is comfortable with the idea of her son being in Columbus. Enter LJSr.
