That spear was bad. No excuses. His playing time dropped significantly afterwards though.

Most of the other penalties were called, doesn't justify them, but they were flagged. We were penalized a LOT last year. And actually has been a problem since Saban was here.

I agree, those penalties are a product of intensity. There is a fine line between playing intense and playing out of control. We continualy crossed that line in last years NC Game. That doesn't make us a dirty team any more than that video makes LSU a dirty team.

Seems like it was just a natural "instinct" play by the official. Dude probably plays some football somewhere during the week and forgot where he was and that he was a ref...

Otherwise, it's hard to imagine what the story is behind this.

You think when he's playing during the week he ever forgets where he is and calls a penalty?

I would imagine so since players are ALWAYS calling out for penalties.

:wink2:

In all seriousness, what is the explanation for this as motive?

Who the fuck calls penalties in pick-up football? Pussies.

I don't know about motivation...maybe vcash. I don't need to know his motivation to know it was fucking corrupt. You don't "forget yourself" and fucking tackle a Quarterback in an SEC game. If that were the case, shit like that would happen more often.

The SEC head of officials defended him (big surprise). Said he was in proper positio, and was lifting his arm to "protect himself".

Of course these are the same guys that said the officiating in this game was legit (watch the 2:05 mark for a terrible "no call")

If that guy ever refs another game at any level, it's a damn shame.

I watched part of that game live, but didn't actually see that play until this morning.

It absolutely blew me away how blatant it was. And now to see the other angle from slightly behind the play proves it to be 100% intentional.

There is no way anyone connected with officiating can defend what that guy did. He was not "in position". He moved out of position while shadowing the ball carrier (instead of keeping his position like he's supposed to, unless someone is coming right at him, and even then, only move at the last instant to protect yourself). Then he steps forward into the hit that he is delivering to the ball carrier. It's just amazing.

To not call obvious fouls is one thing - that's what we've had to put up with since '02.
But for a ref to actively and physically intervene in the play of the game is unheard of (outside of the BW3 commercial).

If they don't investigate this guy and sweep it under the rug, I won't belive it - even in the SECheat.
