The SEC has incompetent or even cheating refs? Not possible! :tongue2:

Watching Big Ten refs call Rehring and Brewster for a chop block was ridiculous. Rehring basically fell on his face and Brew just pushed his guy that direction.

That call was absolutely hilarious! I saw it exactly how you did too..

Normally I'm pretty dismissive of this stuff, because the ref's (1) are just regular joes with shitty "real" jobs like everybody else (2) are human, and therefore not perfect (3) are responsible for seeing everything going on amongst the chaos of 22 athletes running around full speed and (4) catch enough garbage that I don't need to pile on.

All that said, I can't for the life of me understand how an umpire squares up the QB then shoulder-checks him on the side he's carrying the ball. The ref brought his feet and clearly (I think) lunged forward.

This video is more damning than the one that started the thread. I'm usually dismissive of "the refs" conspiracy theories but this one is tough to overlook:

by the way, that ref should be fired for this one.
that looks about as blatant as possible.

Agreed, I have watched it multiple times and honestly can't believe how blatant it appears. Check Vegas and the Referee's bank account. But if the QB had SEC speed he should have blown right around that old timer. The real concern here is the Ole' Ball Coaches inability to recruit that SEC speed.

As far as the other video, it does raise concerns. Especially the spear to the back of the neck but in all fairness we do have the advantage of multiple angles and slow motion replays, remember we did have a linebacker attempt to choke an opposing QB not that long ago. People do things totally out of character at times on the field. Questionable grabbing a player that high, but both facemasks were flagged, now the celebrating after pulling a helmet off when you KNOW you grabbed the facemask is unacceptable.

But referees as much as we hate them are human, they make mistakes, they will have a bias and who can blame them for hating Spurrier? Hell we have never had to deal with him and I hate him. I can only imagine how much NU and those in SEC country despise him.

If the ref had wanted to avoid the quarterback, he would have stayed where he was or moved to his left. As it was, he took two slide-steps right to stay square, brought his feet under him, lowered his shoulder, and hit the dude. I dont know how that could have been anything but intentional.

That spear was bad. No excuses. His playing time dropped significantly afterwards though.

Most of the other penalties were called, doesn't justify them, but they were flagged. We were penalized a LOT last year. And actually has been a problem since Saban was here.

He also stared him down afterwards with a "what now bitch!?" kind of demeanor.
