Losing Early, Now What Needs to Happen - 2010 Chaos Theory

Brutus,

Well done, greenies for that. Only thing I disagree with is you saying Oregon losing to USC doesn't really help. Oregons loss to USC would be worse than a Buckeye loss to Wisky, so I would think it could be a big help. Everyone is waiting for Oregon to fuck up, I think if they lose it'll be one of those "here we go again" situations.

But it's questionable whether Oregon would drop below us.....

Honestly, we need to worry about the Rose Bowl at this time, unless Sparty can thread the needle and make the NC game.

Just to make the Rose Bowl, Ohio State needs:

Win out.
Wiscy lose again
Iowa loss--two would be nice (will be taken care of with our winning out)
Sparty lose twice.

That's three losses that Ohio State has no control over.

Nope. We need one thing, for Iowa to beat MSU. In that case, as long as MSU doesn't lose again, we are going to the Rose Bowl at a minimum.

I agree...if oregon loses, we jump them. The frustrating thing is that while we were both undefeated....we were ahead of oklahoma. Now we both have 1 loss and oklahoma is ahead of us. It makes no sense. (the computers are giving stoops a handy at #5 which i don't get.)

Also, as far as Chaos theory goes...there is no way in hell Mizzou wins out.

If Nebraksa takes care of Mizzou, Oklahoma will fall below us IMO. Currently they have one loss to an undefeated Missouri team which to the computers looks better than a loss to a team with one loss.

Apparently it looks better to the voters too...I wouldn't doubt that if Nebraska wins, voters will move them ahead of tOSU too and leave Oklahoma and Mizzou ahead too.

Phuckin assholes.

I don't see a valid reason to complain about the voters right now. The human polls only have two 1-loss teams ahead of tOSU - the defending champion and a team that beat us and only lost to an undefeated team.

In the Harris poll, tOSU is 157 points ahead of Oklahoma, and 410 points ahead of 1-loss Nebraska, who just beat an undefeated team on the road.

In the Coaches poll, tOSU is 95 points ahead of Oklahoma and 164 points ahead of Nebraska.

BCS computers don't care about margin of victory, they're not allowed to. They have Oklahoma ahead of tOSU due to schedule comparisons.

Complaining about where the voters have tOSU right now is just whining.

I wasn't whining about where tOSU is ranked. I was stating that not only do the computers like Oklahoma's one loss to undeafeated Mizzou more than tOSU's one loss to a one-loss Wiscy but that the voters do too. Which is why I quoted and agree with the previous post.

Not whining merely stating a fact.

When Mizzou goes down to Nebraska it will drop the Bucks down again...and they'll probably drop again during the BYE week. There's no reason to think that a beatdown of Minny and PSU will do anything to move Ohio State up in the rankings when ranked teams are playing each other and getting more out of their victories. Ohio State is not getting the love because of the weak schedule and was severly penalized for losing to a one-loss team. I'm just saying I really won't be surprised if tOSU is ranked #12-#14 when they head to Iowa city.

Just keep winning, and it won't matter. If we win out, odds are high that we finish top 10, possibly top 5. But with NO help, just us winning, we should be a lock for a top 10 finish.

OK - calling the voters 'Phuckin assholes' isn't whining, it's merely stating a fact. I stand corrected. :wink2:

Agreed. We didn't take care of business against Wiscy so we have no reason to beef w/ anyone. Meanwhile, if we DO take care of business the rest of the season, it's likely (not guaranteed) we'll be rewarded with a BCS bid. Seems fair.

Another reason why the computers and voters see Choklahoma as higher ranked than OSU is that they have a larger victory on file than OSU.

FSU vs Cryami

If Mizz loses than SOS goes down for Choklahoma. And they do get hit in the comps. Choklahoma still has to play Ok St and then if they make it, the B12 Title game.

For us style points will matter with the voters not the comps. Fortunately Cryami has a couple of weeks that should be easy wins which will help us there. If FSU loses down the line it helps us against Okla also. So Florida could end up being our best friend against FSU then ALA/Aub.

If we win big at Minny and Oregon and Mizz lose we will jump them in the BCS.

Okla St will likely lose a couple more games and hurt Nebraska in the comps... they have 4-5 tough games left.

I really am not worried about any B12 team being ahead of OSU if the Bucks win out. They keep eating themselves up and comp ranks will keep getting knocked down with teams like Iowa St, K-St, TTU and Baylor winning against the ranked teams. It will turn into the ACC.

The big problems on our SOS are called Marshall and Eastern Michigan. Marshall could win as many as three of the final five, or lose them all. Eastern Michigan is probably not going to win again. Minnesota also is unlikely to win more than one game this year. One of these losers on the schedule is not going to help your SOS. All of them are poison.

No. We need Wisconsin to lose another one too. Iowa needed to beat them last weekend.
