Losing Early, Now What Needs to Happen - 2010 Chaos Theory

Agreed, but after watching "Mc Lovin" pick us apart in the the first half yesterday, i'm not sure that we want Boise....

Since when does The Ohio State University shy away from playing community college teams? I want them. I want them....BAD. With the Rose Bowl as the stage, I want to utterly bring their little fraudulent, feel good story to an end. Fuck Boysee.

We shouldn't be afraid of Boise at all. Ugh.

We were stretched to the max last season against Vandenberg or whatever, the Iowa kid, then trashed a much better QB, Masoli.

Anyone who thinks Mclovin's first half was anything more than solid play coupled by bad luck hasn't watched a lot of football. He made a couple nice throws, the rest were all thrown into zone coverage with 5-10 yard cushions. Please.

Gotta kill Iowa Saturday. Oregon is vulnerable, so thats a good thing. And I still think Wisky could get knocked off by scUM. Bulimia is building a ton of bad karma by being a dick against two of the WORST B10 teams, Minny and IU.

Careful careful, you son of a bitch.

I don't know about that. I think a Boysee Rose Bowl game almost is a no win situation for us. Lose, and well... let's not even spend time thinking about the impossible scenarios because we all know it will be a bigtime beat down. So, Bucks win by 30, the meatball talking heads around the nation will just say "so what? The Buckeyes should have won. Good for Boise for putting together a good season."

Personally, part of me would rather see us play LSU. Only problem with this is it would have to be in the Sugar, and I just can't hope for anything "less" than the Rose. I gotta pull for a Rose Bowl birth.

If Boise goes to the Rose they'll spend the entire time talking about whether Boise was good enough/should have been invited to the NC. They won't ignore the result of that game, it would be more of a thing where we are just doing college football a favor as opposed to something where we really "earn respect" so to speak. I don't really see who we would play in the Rose Bowl that could earn us much more respect then what we earned/should have earned in last years. I really think that playing Oregon again in the Rose Bowl if the Ducks somehow drop a game would be the real "no win" situation.

We struggled at times with Jacory Harris besides his mistakes. Scott Tolzien didn't throw the ball a ton, but he was 13 of 16 for 152. So McGloin's first half isn't something that we haven't seen at all this season, the secondary is still the weak spot overall and Kellen Moore is a more efficient quarterback then any of those 3.

Now to be "scared" of Boise State is ridiculous. Overall there is absolutely no evidence that they would have any chance at stopping our offense if we stick the identity that we had in the 2nd half yesterday. Boise can string some drives together, but as long as we show up to play we should handle our business.

In all honesty, If we don't get some help we won't have to worry about Boise. If the status quo happens we play in the Sugar or Orange with Wisky playing those spud faced twits. We will be a team that the bowls will want to pick as one of the first At larges. So it could be a LSU rematch or a VT or FSU matchup.

Why do people talk of us going to the Rose Bowl being a "no win" situation because of who we might play. Who cares who we play. It's the Rose Bowl!!! I want Ohio State to go to the Rose Bowl and I want Ohio State to be back to back Rose Bowl champs. I'd rather beat an unranked team in the Rose Bowl then beat a top 5 team in the Sugar Bowl.

Now...if we can somehow back into this NCG, that'd be glorious!!!

No-win from a national perspective standpoint. I agree that I want a Rose Bowl win; but with the polls the way they are, we need national respect. That will probably change in the coming years with the expansion though. It already feels like Nebraska is and Conf Championship game is going to increase the B10 perception.

A win over SEC opponent in BCS bowl is better than a win over TCU/Boise in the Rose. However, I just don't see Wisconsin losing, so we may not have much to worry about vs Non AQ.

And, from the B10 perspective, now that Iowa is out of the BCS race, we don't have to worry about them playing Boise/TCU and Ferentz/Stanzi shitting the bed.

And if Oregon loses and misses the NCG, we don't have to worry about the Rose Bowl being polluted by Boise/TCU.

I have the "pleasure" of living in an area where 'The Penn State Story' airs win or lose. You get to see them beat their chests when they beat Temple, and put a nice face on it when they lose to us. I usually avoid that ridiculous show, but when we kick their asses I like to take a peak and see how they're coping. They showed almost every throw McGloin made in the first half. Every single one was the first read on an easy route against soft coverage. Every single one. That means anybody on this message board would have looked just as good as that dickwad did in the first half. He wasn't reading defenses or putting the ball where only the WR could catch it. He was playing catch with his #1 option against air.

Congrats, Moxie. How'd that go for you in the second half?

Looking at this week's polls, the only possible MNC that I can see involving Ohio State would be against TCU, since the Frogs are essentially in the clubhouse with only a game at New Mexico (1-9) remaining. After a bye week, no less.

Losses we need to see:

Oregon faces Arizona at home and Oregon State on the road. Given the way Cal was able to slow down their "unstoppable" offense, there's a good possibility that Mike Stoops' squad can do the same.

Auburn has two shots to lose it, and it doesn't matter if the FBI finds dead hookers and 55lb bags of pure Columbian in Newton's apartment. Both Alabama and South Carolina are capable of beating the Tigers.

Either loss most likely puts TCU in the title game. If both lose, TCU is certainly in.

Next up, Boise. They host Fresno State, then play at Nevada, then host hapless Utah State. The most losable of those is the game at Nevada. Fresno State would have a better shot if the game were in the Central Valley, but it's on Boise's abominable blue field. The rankings don't indicate that the voters or computers are going to drop Boise far enough for a BCS school to move past them if Oregon and Auburn lose, so a Boise loss is critical for us.

LSU hosts Mississippi the goes to OurKansas, a very losable game for them. It's also going to be hard to vote a team into the MNC that didn't even go to the SEC title game should they win out. Unfortunately, the computers aren't going to let us slip past them even if the voters do.

Stanford is at Cal this weekend, and we're hoping that Cal plays like they did against Oregon. They finish with Oregon State at home, so Cal is our best shot.

Wisconsin is a team we need to see lose, and unfortunately, our best hope is Michigan. The upside of that game is that either way we're happy. A Michigan loss is always a good time, so don't root for them too hard. Wisconsin finishes at home against Northwestern, who lost Persa for the rest of the season, so don't expect any help there.

Finally, there's Nebraska. On the road at aTm this week, then at home against "rival" dead-man-walking Colorado. We need them to lose now.

So, this weekend's must-lose games:

Stanford at Cal
Wisconsin at Michigan
Nebraska at Texas A&M

We need to go 3-for-3 on those, or any hopes of sneaking into the MNC are done. A Wisconsin loss is a double word score, because that pretty much assures us the Rose Bowl bid.

Oregon can lose to either.

Auburn needs to lose both or the SECCG only. Brad Edwards said that Auburn losing @ Alabama and then winning the SEC would still push for the title.

Either loss most likely puts TCU in the title game. If both lose, TCU is certainly in.

TCU will not make the game. If Boise wins out and Aub and/or Oregon lose the only Non AQ with a chance is Boise. The VT win looks better than any win TCU has. Boise will jump TCU in next week or two barring a VT loss. Boise doesn't need to lose in my opinion but a loss definitely opens the door for us.

LSU hosts Mississippi the goes to OurKansas, a very losable game for them. It's also going to be hard to vote a team into the MNC that didn't even go to the SEC title game should they win out. Unfortunately, the computers aren't going to let us slip past them even if the voters do.

LSU, Stanford just need to lose one.(possible)

Wisconsin is a team we need to see lose, and unfortunately, our best hope is Michigan. The upside of that game is that either way we're happy. I never sleep on NW, no matter the situation. scUM needs to win one of the last two or RR may be done. I wouldn't put it past him to do whatever it takes to have them ready for Wisky. Wisky has, per many fellow fans thoughts, tested the karma of college football by continually running up the score. Add to that how bad scUM's D looked against Ill and how they flipped the switch against Purdue. (granted Purdue) scUM could make a late push for Cap 1 bowl if they win out. (I don't believe they win both) But I also thought there was no way that Texas maybe misses a bowl this year or that MSU would only have 1 loss. If Wisky sleepwalks the way the did starting against Indiana and Purdue they can lose. I still also believe if Wisky plays both close and we DOMINATE the last 2 weeks, we can jump them with some losses we need.

Finally, there's Nebraska. On the road at aTm this week, then at home against "rival" dead-man-walking Colorado. We need them to lose now.

The winner from the South can also beat them. A win isn't needed this week. Would be good to have Okla St lose before the B12CG. So there is no possibility of a jump.

So, this weekend's must-lose games:

Stanford at Cal - wouldn't say must win but better chance for loss
Wisconsin at Michigan - sleeping on NW gets you beat ala OSU in 04. NW could also be playing as a spoiler which Fitz loves.
Nebraska at Texas A&M - other games they can lose

We need to go 3-for-3 on those, or any hopes of sneaking into the MNC are done. A Wisconsin loss is a double word score, because that pretty much assures us the Rose Bowl bid.
Again I don't think those are all "needed". Helpful, yes. As crazy as it would make it (07 revisited) only one game needs to happen this week. OSU over Iowa. Other stuff makes it easier.

Pretty good post.
My additions in red.

Only need to get to 2. In 9th now(7 losses needed, less if we can jump teams). All big 6 conference teams ahead of us except Wisky have very likely games they can lose(Aub,Ore,LSU,Stan,Neb). Even the 2 challenging Boise games could trip them up. Possible for 2 1 loss Big6 conference teams to make it in but more likely to have Aub and Ore lose late and a NON AQ make it alongside us. The statements that could leave out the NON AQs are already coming up. Edwards did say it would be extremely hard for OSU or Wisky to make it in but that is without lots of losses that would be needed to make that a possibility.
