Losing Early, Now What Needs to Happen - 2010 Chaos Theory

Not trying to bust anyone's chops here, and I hope you'll all continue your discussions after my departure, but I don't see the Buckeyes as deserving of being in the NC game this season. What happened in Madison is a microcosm of why - atrocious special teams play (continuing to last night against the woeful Goophers) is in my opinion a disqualifier. We just can't seem to get kick coverage right this season, and all the injuries to speed/skill players probably plays a huge role.

Seeing Boise play TCU wouldn't be the worst thing in the world IMO. It would point out the absurd outcomes the current system allows.

Did you find the '07 team deserving? I didn't. But they made it there and had some semblance of a chance of winning the whole damn thing.

I feel like this year, even more than '07, this team CAN beat anyone on any given Saturday. The whole of that game in Madison resulted in a loss (a pretty bad one at that), but it's not like we saw a team that COULDN'T get anything done that night. We all know that if the team that showed up out of the locker room at the half showed up before the game began it would've been a VERY different outcome and we're probably STILL #1. I'm of the mindset that making it to a NCG and losing isn't much different than getting an at-large BCS bid and winning that bowl game. So if we get there, you won't see me complaining.

I also don't think Iowa is anyone to fear. If you didn't already know before last night, Sparty was exposed for what they really are, a team who has caught some fantastic breaks this season that has serious trouble defensively and can only run an offense when their QB has time and free roam. They could easily have 3 maybe 4 losses at this point in the season. Iowa is a very similar rushing team to Wisconsin without the size at O-line or the talent at RB. Our D-line has proven sturdy when it's talent on talent and not girth on girth. Stanzi is definitely a gamechanger and with McNutt and Co. receiving he WILL put up some numbers (and some points) on our young, gimped secondary. I just don't see them moving the ball at will and I don't see them being able to contain our offensive attack. At this point we've also had our experiences on the road and have learned how to deal with that type of adversity. Nobody on the coaching staff is looking past that game and much like last year it's basically the defacto BigTen championship game. I wouldn't fear Iowa too much, but It's gonna be one hell of a game.

Well, it doesn't appear that we jumped Wiscy in the human polls despite the pounding we gave the Gophers and Wiscy having to face Bye.

I am looking forward to seeing how the computers deal with Sparty after the loss to Iowa. Hopefully they get dropped decently far that we won't have to worry about them sliding back up into the picture. I think as long as we take care of business and win out we are a lock for the top 5 or 6 heading into scUM week. I think at the end of it all, we'll end up at 3 or 4, with the off-chance of the humans pushing us into the #2 slot and the game in the desert. Wiscy will likely get left down at about 7 or 8 for the rest of the season, and MSU climbs back up to no higher than 10.

If Wisconsin wins out like OSU, I don't see how voters will put OSU ahead of Wisconsin because of head to head. Computer rankings may be in OSU's favor, but I don't see human polls being the same.

Just my two cents.

Wisconsin doesn't have another "booster" game on their schedule.

When we go out to Kinnick and beat Iowa, that will be PLENTY to make up the handful of votes we're currently behind Bucky.

I'm not even so sure that the BCS rankings don't move us ahead before then.

That'd be nice. TCU/Utah will have a loss on their schedule as well, but I believe it'd be in our favor if TCU loses to Utah then Utah gets upset by Notre Dame on the road.

Alabama would need to beat Auburn then loses in the SEC Title Game. I don't see how any other situation will have OSU passing either Auburn/Alabama (unless they both loses 2 more games).

Boise State is Boise State. What I'd like to see is Oregon tearing Boise State up so badly in the NC Title Game that people would just forget about Boise State for a long time.

The ALA/AUB game is so late in the year. OSU could have the potential to be at 4-5 in the rankings by then. A loss by either would drop them below OSU at that point of the year.

Then add in if ALA find a way to lose before the Aub game. Then they beat Aub. Aub still goes to the SECCG but it could still drop them far enough behind to keep us ahead. And all of this is if Oregon, Oklahoma, TCU/UTAH, Boise don't find a way to lose.

I'd like to see them in the Rose Bowl get absolutely humiliated by us or Wiscy.

The best thing for us is just simply worry about our games and win out!

After doing so, then we'll have to evaluate our position at that time. Of course, OSU had the perfect storm in 2007. The odds of that happening was slim to none. It would be quite amazing, if that kind of perfect storm happened again, but I really doubtfully think that will happen again for Ohio State, haha. It would be great though.

All in all, all I want from Ohio State at this point is to completely destroy Michigan's defense this time and make it a 7 straight!

Not trying to be harsh about this. I just think some still don't fully understand the reason for this thread.

A. Bucks winning out is obviously a must. Otherwise there is no point to this.
B. We work to track teams to root against in the chance that things could go the way as in 07. Even if it is extremely unlikely.
C. This thread was created to push the mentality of hope, as I posted earlier, as a 6 grader always believes their team can win no matter the score.
D. Some don't care to think about NCG chances until they are real and prominent. That's ok. They usually stay away from this thread.
E. College football is unpredictable and the voting on teams is not an exact science and so anything can happen.
F. Some believe if the Bucks get into a title game that anything is possible and to do so you only have to reach 2 in the BCS.
G. FUN.

Please allow us our fun. We kindly ask that if you are going to post here to make it relevant to OSU's title chances and not to the Big Ten discussion or hopes of a Rose Bowl berth. There are other threads for that. Thanks.

Go Bucks.

I understand your concerns with our team, but when it comes to the other teams there are obvious weaknesses with most/all of them

Auburn and Oregon do not have legitimate defenses

Boise State, Utah and TCU do not play teams good enough to expose any weakness they may have.

Bama is shaky in the secondary, not particularly dynamic on offense.
