Drive north (take I-59 out of Birmingham) till you get to the Chattanooga area; you're likely to see some snow there at altitude. If you don't see any there, head up north on I-81 toward Bristol, but then take I-26 east toward Johnson City and then get off the interstate and head toward Boone, NC. You're very likely to see snow at altitude there in January.

If you make it to Boone, stop by Appy State and set them my regards.

Funny you say that. I'd kill for some warm muggy weather right about now.

Had project work in West Virginia yesterday, so drove south from C-bus through Jackson OH. (Discovered that US 35 is the fastest way to get to Charleston.)

Coming back, hit absolutely torrential thunderstorms just south of Gallipolis. Visibility about 25 feet. Thunderstorms, torrential rain and 60 degrees, in mid-December.

Then, when I hit Chillicothe, the temp dropped about 25 degrees and I was confronted with about a half-inch of glare ice on the road. Was like that for almost 20 miles. More white-knuckle time.

By the time I hit C-bus, temperature had risen back to 45. No more ice, no more rain.

Winter in Ohio. Never a dull moment. (And yes, I know it's not really "winter" yet.)

Thunderstorms Thur, then two inches of snow Thur night and Fri. I really want some mother[censored]ing snow

Flippin 50 mph wind gusts, post T-Storms, post grass growing season, even if there's no ice, that's tree toppling power outage goodness with Family on the way from out of state. Just give me the snow and I'm good.
