Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

i guess my point was more towards the players deciding that it’s not worth it to stick with their teams or sitting out of the post-season because they don’t want to damage their chances in the draft.

meaning that post-season play and championships don’t hold any value anymore for the athletes.

Ah. I see.

How many are draft worthy though? something like 1%?

However flawed the NCAA was/is NIL is going to demonstrate why colleges need it or a governing board of some kind. Right now, the future of the game is in the hands of boosters (and what a piss poor time to bring USC and the Trojan penchant for breaking the rules into the conference). Maybe it already was and we just didn't see it, but every day this current system seems more like the NFL with none of the controls to keep labor somewhat in line.

So I’m terms of numbers for CBs next year, I’m reading that Dunn is going to the portal and that we possibly do not get Lee. Does this change our need here?
I believe that Dunn was a S, and we're set there. But losing Lee hurts, especially to freaking Auburn. We need at least 2 CBs in the portal

Seems there are 150 QBs in the portal... would put some coaches in a precarious situation
stick with the kids you recruited and promised that are freshmen or sophs
or bring in a rental for a yr or two
would also become part of the radar for any QB you are recruiting
Lincoln Riley made his career on rental QBs, and Saban tried to sustain success with rental WRs.

There's a ton of OL as well that I hope OSU goes after, especially OTs!
6 players from the fake-OSU(Knowles' old school) 5 on defense are in the portal I wonder if OSU pursues the DL or S(s)

Meh, games still need to be played. And those boosters brought in a bunch of talent, and they got manhandled by Utah and their lack of extensive NIL dollars. All the money Texas spent, and they watched Kansas St win the Big 12, and I doubt Manhattan, KS boosters broke the bank for their players. But CFB was always a junior NFL, but CFB fans wanted to think that the bands, rivalries and pageantry made it more wholesome. Kids have been getting paid for generations. Parity has been laughable in CFB forever, NIL and the portal may actually offer some type of parity for once. It'd actually be refreshing to see a new team in the CFB actually put up a fight.
But I certainly agree that there needs to be some type of rules going forward.

No surprise, and has even been rumored to being a package deal with his little brother...

right now it's more like the early days of MLB when there was no draft/limited to no governance on acquiring talent.

You can see this headed for players to become employees of some sort, then unionized, then collectively bargain so you can "control" it like the major professional sports do today.

It's definitely headed that way, and this should've been known years ago! Even when the uber corrupt Big 8 were going crazy in Texas, or the out of control Switzer led OU teams. Players should've been treated like employees, instead of masquerading as "student athletes" when everyone knew the actual truth. Anyone who's went to college of any kind has stories of the football or basketball team being treated favorably, and noticing them with a nicer car, a new jacket, being able to travel whenever, etc. This should've been a situation nipped in the bud a long time ago, instead of hiding behind these being solely student pursuing higher education, and they happen to play sports.

Yep. It's like owners of pro sports teams not wanting to pay players.

These universities, the NCAA and Bowls got fat by keeping all the money for themselves for decades. Most of the angst I see today is trying to look at the new reality where labor isn't free anymore through the lens of the old, bullshit, framework (read student athlete myth). Like most things, it's a fantasy made up by marketers and real humans pay the price by trying to live out the bullshit role.
