Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

That'd give us the two from 2023, Brown, Burke, Johnson and Hancock. So yeah I guess 1 more corner should be added.

Anyone know how well Grimes has done?
We lose Brown after the season. That would leave OSU with Burke, Johnson, Hancock, Brown and Turner. 2 true frosh, would give OSU only 7 schools CBs.
Seems like Grimes hasn’t played up to his star ranking in HS. Maybe a change of scenery will help him and OSU.

I think Grimes has been very good.
He was hurt this year.
But he he skipped his sr year of HS and was starting at UNC as a true frosh.

I’m seeing a ton of offers already going out from big time programs to kids who just hit the portal.

I understand we don’t want to hinder the recruiting class we are a couple weeks from signing but the days of not wanting to hurt players feelings are over. It’s a 2 way street now. We need to adapt. Asap.

just a bit of open-ended thinking here. if you like living in the here and the now, you can stop reading. this is a post asking a "where to from here..." kind of question.

in the professional leagues players get additional pay and bonuses for post-season success. pride and a sense accomplishment and recognition (by peers, coaches, family, friends, etc) aside, i'm not sure what *tangible* reward college athletes get. and i'm not sure how well these intangible rewards measure up when it comes to athletes to trying to evaluate how much they're willing to risk a lucrative pro career to put themselves in a position to win them.

taking in the mass exodus ever since the CFP selections were made makes me think we're not that far off from a national championship also not have any meaning or worth to some (many?) players.

unless there starts to be something along those lines in college football, bowl games and playoffs and championships will become a place where guys who feel like they need exposure or the need to "prove" something they have as yet not done.

CFB did this to themselves. If they allowed something like NIL decades ago, and worked out the kinks, there wouldn't be any problems like there are now. Everything is a gray area, and everyone is abiding by a separate set of rules. Do you pay up front, or wait until the kids hit college? Do you set a cap, or does the collective just throw out money and gifts to the recruits family and friends as well as the recruit? No real answers are had, just a ton questions, and fans left in the dark

There's too much talent and so many names in the portal that it's too early and too difficult to even think about who OSU is pursuing. Former 5stars are nice, but if they haven't produced in college, than why should OSU pursue them? And the amount of talented guys from G5 schools or P5 schools and haven't gotten a chance is insane. I'm sure OSU will end up with some guys we've hardly heard of from schools like Buffalo or Rhode Island

Also consider, in this NIL age we live in, putting your name in the portal doesn't necessarily mean you are part of a mass exodus. Could just be testing the market to make sure the local NIL guys are paying you appropriately.

Not all but some. I know I'd tell my kid to do that if he were a P5 football player of some merit.

i guess my point was more towards the players deciding that it’s not worth it to stick with their teams or sitting out of the post-season because they don’t want to damage their chances in the draft.

meaning that post-season play and championships don’t hold any value anymore for the athletes.

Seems there are 150 QBs in the portal... would put some coaches in a precarious situation
stick with the kids you recruited and promised that are freshmen or sophs
or bring in a rental for a yr or two
would also become part of the radar for any QB you are recruiting
