London Olympics: "We're pretty much ready..."

I like how BoB says.."you probably couldn't dream of being on a world stage 2 years ago". And then they all pretty much say that 2004 was then they wanted to do this...Isn't dreaming of it half the battle in the first place?

Meh - that was their canned response. They really couldn't say, "I was too young to remember."

With gymnastics being what it is, this will be the only time we even see any of these young ladies do what they did this evening.

Also - let me retract a previous statement, LOL. Ye Shiwen is definetly doping:

More gold, though, brought more doping suspicions. The 400 IM raised eyebrows because she swam her final 50 meters of freestyle faster than the men's 400 IM gold medalist, Ryan Lochte, did. Ye has never tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Used to it. She does it to Peyton Manning all the time. Which I don't understand that one. She likes doofus, goober looking tall guys.

She knew that Tyra Banks was mine [quote/]

Tyra and Manning? Your home would seem to have an extreme forehead fetish.

LOL - really?!? You're looking at her FOREHEAD?!? What the hells wrong with you, dude?!?

She negative split her last 100 in the 400 IM. Negative. Split. That doesn't happen in swimming, and it certainly doesn't happen to such an extent that it beats the men's splits. Her time beat the previous world record by a full second, that time was set in Bejing with a fastskin suit.

It's best summed up by Mark Spitz,

In terms of raw performance, her swim was one of the best ones ever.

Yep, it looked a lot like the race Ben Johnson ran back in the day.

Props to NBC for starting their primetime coverage with...synchronized diving, the worst sport on earth, with no Americans even in it :slappy:

Meanwhile, by the time they got done with that, all the fluff, and Seacrest wiping off his chin, people who have to get up early for work tomorrow necessarily missed the women winning the gold. Stellar performance guys, Dick Ebersol sure is the greatest genius ever, alright, because this fluff shit is EXACTLY what everyone wants to see :shake:

Yeah so they didn't show the women gymnastics winning gold until about 11, and they didn't show Phelps break the record until after that. What the hell? NBC coverage is horrible

They have to give max face time to their advertisers. It's all about the $$$$$.

Just watched the women's 400 individual swim final. Ye Shiwen won with a time of 2:07:57. Afterwards, Bob Costas doesn't praise the young lady, instead he calls into question her performance and states the following:

"Eye opening results to be sure for Ye Shiwen, and these days, suspicion almost inevitably comes with the territory she's now entered with her remarkable swim times this week."

"Major breakthroughs come with sports....so does doping."

WTF?!?

Costas is a moron. I have no clue if the girl is doping or just a freak of an athlete. Besides test results I would trust the opinions of the other swimmers and coaches who see her all the time. These guys know each other from competing against one aother on a regular basis. They are going to know if the jump in ability and times is natural or assisted. Kind of like when Carl Lewis knew Ben Johnson was on the juice when they lined up against each other.

Congrats to Phelps!!! Glad he came out of his self-imposed retreat last year and started training again. It looks like he may be physically wearing down, but he is still the best all-around swimmer in the world. I'd love for him to come back in 2016, but it is time for him to enjoy life. He has earned it.

The issue is that as the US population continues to shift westward, those of us in the eastern time zone are going to have to get used to the national networks no longer catering to our time preferences.

Also, they don't hand out the Oscar for Best Picture at the beginning of the show.

It got some of you to actually watch synchronized diving, didn't it?

I don't mind how they've set up their evening show. The should process the hell out of it, put the best stuff last, put in all the human interest shit that gets our wives to want to watch. The problem isn't that they're doing the tape delayed show at the end of the day like this, it's the embargo on showing those same events live, earlier in the day.

Speaking of which...who's watching what? As for me I'm watching the men's time trials...and women's basketball Aus/Brazil.

I'm watching the "Gold Zone" feed thru the NBC Olympics Live Extra app. Used it yesterday for the first time and it seemed to do pretty well. The coverage bounces around a bit, but you get to see all the important stuff that's going on with minimal ads. You also get British and Aussie commentary, which on the whole has been way better than the Americans. Yesterday I saw everything I wanted to see during the day, and didn't end up feeling the need to check out the prime time show on TV.

I have to agree with this...after watching the Men's relay yesterday live with Phelps and the boys and then seeing it again on the NBC replay I didn't think it was even close when it came to the announcers.
