Can't speak to the iffy reputation but, but I have to say that if I was going to get one of the coaches from the LSU staff, I'd rather have Bo Pelini than Les. Obviously LSU is doing very well, clearly he (Miles) can coach and recruit -- but (and I'm sure some will find this absurd) I think Michigan would be downgrading from Lloyd to Les. It's hard for me to imagine him a good fit for Michigan. If Bo gets the Nebraska job, perhaps he'll flop harder than Callahan and make me look stupid, but today, I think more highly of him than his HC.

I'm still a bit curious as to why Miles seems to have an iffy reputation. I haven't seen LSU get embroiled in recruiting scandals on his watch, haven't seen LSU players getting in trouble on or off the field. Undoubtedly he's a top-caliber coach on the field.

Well, what I have heard from the scUM I work with, my bosses are all alumni (yes, it does suck to be me some days), but they basically have their fears that he won't be able to work within the academic standards of tsun and will get in trouble. I don't know how much of that is true and how much is hoping for someone out of the woodwork like Tressel that you don't know too much about but is just a solid winner or what. Another thing is everyone knows he's going to cost a lot of money.

Personally, if I were a fan of that school my only concern would be he takes a lot of chances and with the level of talent he has he's letting teams stay a lot closer than they should.

Bad clock management, asshat personality, arrogant when winning or losing, coddled Perrileaux(sp) and his many off field problems, and - I dunno - I just really don't like the guy. It's visceral....

(Yeah. Now I remember. He was quoted in public hoping UF would lose in some January bowl game :paranoid:)

Michigan 14, Penn State 9.
Michigan 28, Northwestern 16.
Michigan 33, EMU 22.

Well hell. Wouldn't want that. :tongue2:

I don't find it absurd. In fact I think there'll be some hesitancy and a sense of a downgrade no matter who's hired. Lloyd's proven and has a track record going back 12 years - whoever the replacement is (if in fact there is a replacement - I don't want to be too premature) isn't likely to have anywhere near that much head-coaching experience at a big-time school.

and there's a coach at Stanford who has been making some very disparaging remarks...

Unless Lloyd was an assistant while Harbaugh played, I don't think your point is relevant. Bo was HC when Harbaugh played.

But maybe Carr was offensive coordinator, or QB coach, or something.

Carr's been at Michigan since 1980, but he was always a defensive coach. I think secondary coach and later on DC.

Michigan hasn't hired a coach from outside the program since 1969.

My sense is that Carr would have some input on his replacement.

Any reason it would not be another internal hire?

Might he even turn over the reigns prior to the bowl?
