Gee! Wasn't this done before?
Like.......last year? :tongue2:
No.

And no, it's not a "motivational ploy" if true, though I'd venture that it would help.

And I don't give a damn what jokes anyone makes on Lloyd Carr. True-blue Michigan fans appreciate all he's done for the program. Ask Miami, Nebraska, Florida State, Texas A&M, or Alabama - it's extremely hard these days to keep a great program from taking a swan dive into irrelevance. He's kept Michigan winning, he's run an upstanding, classy program, and he's earned the loyalty of everyone who's played for him. How many coaches around the country can you find like that?

I don't think he's trying anything, I think he's more than likely done, he feels he can't do anymore for the program or wants to to move beyond him or however you call it. Look, if he wanted a ploy to motivate he could have easily had the long "do it for Bo" speech last year.

This has been coming and there were strong rumors at the start of the season that it would happen this year. Precise timing is interesting, but why the heck shouldn't they use it to their advantage.

And I don't give a damn what jokes anyone makes on Lloyd Carr. True-blue Michigan fans appreciate all he's done for the program.

Once he is officially retired I will join you in singing his praises - he does have integrity. But not this week.

Also, has no one noticed the true genius in all this? That's right. CW.

He is coaching so badly that ND will buy him out right after his bowl game - maybe even sooner.

Then he can take the Michigan job. I have it from a reliable source that he has not been spending the money from the ND job and will pour it into the Michigan Athletic Budget. Then cherry pick the recruits he wants from the ND class - while still keeping the others from going to OSU.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

EDSBS and their take on this news ...

(3 sources in Ann Arbor means this is reliable information).

What else will we miss about Lloyd Carr? Not much, really. He never manifested much of himself outside the locker room, though there were flashes of a charming personality and giving man. He never changed much, which was great! Michigan stayed on an even keel during his tenure no matter what happened. He never changed much, which sucked! His offenses clung to the same plays, he stayed loyal to assistants when their schemes were going rancid on the field, and generally gave Michigan football at its worst a dirge-like flavor of ancient obstinacy mixed with joyless, plodding tactics.
....
Not that Lloyd gives a shit what we, you, or Daniel Dennett thinks of any of this. He’s done, and you can kiss his ass. He’s off to coach rugby in Australia with BFF Russell Crowe. Whoever takes over the Durmstrang Institute of Football Studies now–that’s the story from here on out. It’s never too early to start tracking planes, people. That’s what the FAA and flight manifests were invented for in the first place.
