Michigan will remember Carr with favor

A large part of Carr's legacy will be mark vs. OSU
Thursday, November 15, 2007Doug Lesmerises

Columbus- There will be no "Lloyd" headbands Saturday, no pregame firing, no confirmation that a coach is taking part in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry for the final time.
Twenty years ago, his university president dispatching him, his players honoring him, that's how it ended for Earle Bruce, the former Buckeye boss pointing out the anniversary of his dismissal earlier this week. It won't end that way for Lloyd Carr.
"Michigan knows how to handle every problem right," Bruce said. "There won't be much done to Carr. He'll be treated well up there, no matter what happens."
But this certainly could be it, a retirement or bump up into the athletic department potentially waiting for Carr in the coming weeks. The vultures have been circling since an 0-2 start for Michigan that included the program- rattling upset loss to Appalachian State.

Rumors fuel Carr leaving Michigan
Source: LSU's Miles in wings

By ZACH SILKA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

ANN ARBOR - The roar of whispers is growing to a crescendo. Speculation on Michigan coach Lloyd Carr's impending retirement has circulated this campus for years. After the 2004 season, Michigan was forced to call a press conference, in which Carr tersely said, "I'll make this short. I'm not sick and I'm not retiring." Earlier this week, PA Sportsticker reported Carr was leaning toward retirement with a formal announcement coming as early as next week, according to a source close to the program. Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that "two industry sources with connections to the program" told him they believe Carr would retire after the season.

Man, the first time he goes for it on 4th and 6 in the third quarter, the old folks at Michigan Stadium might even look up from their sudoku puzzles.

I really want Les at UM.

I think Miles at scUM would actually out-Cooper Lllll(l)oyd.

iow... Lllll(l)oyd would be a "mini-cooper" compared to (L)es Miles!

my head hurts.

Does this mean that scUM is going to trade-in their mini-Cooper for just another Carr with Les Miles?

People can say whatever they want about mutual respect, blah, blah, etc.

It would be one of the most satisfying things for me, so far as an Ohio State fan, to do to them with Lloyd like they did to us with Coop. Unfortunately, he'll probably just resign rather than be fired and shamed.

We can beat the snot out of them every year and still have respect for them. Carr has been a good enough coach for Mich to keep him. Nuff said

You're right. No matter what, the Michigan Athletic Department won't come out and say "We're firing Lloyd". We could win or lose 70-0 and Lloyd would announce his "retirement" either way.

History would suggest that Lloyd may not want to make The Game his swan song. Since 1936 when it truely became The Game.

OSU coach/last edition of The Game/result
Cooper 2000 L
Bruce 1987 W
Woody 1978 L
Fesler 1950 L
Bixler 1946 L
Widdoes 1945 L
Brown 1943 L
Scmidt 1940 L

tsun coach/last edition of The Game/result
Moeller 1994 L
Bo 1989 W
Elliot 1968 L
Oosterbaan 1958 L
Crisler 1947 W
Kipke 1937 L

Obviously not a direct cause and effect thing but the results don't lie. Overall, The Game has been unkind to the guy coaching in his last one.
