What I am hoping is that their new coach does not have the same effect on them as Carr did at the beginning of his tenure and Tress has had this far.

Carr started 5-1.

Tress has started 6-1.

I would hate to see _______insert name here________ continue that trend.

scUM boards are talking about Brian Kelly at Cinci. He's only been there a year. Wiki says he was considered for both Iowa and scUM lite in 06.

Coach Kelly was named Cincinnati's head coach on December 3, 2006, following the departure of Mark Dantonio. Both Cincinnati and Central Michigan were preparing for bowl appearances so while Kelly was in Cincinnati preparing the Bearcats, much of his staff remained at Central Michigan to coach the Chippewas. Following Central Michigan's win in the Motor City Bowl most of his staff joined him in Cincinnati where they went on to coach Cincinnati to a victory over Western Michigan University in that year's International Bowl, 27-24.

Uhm, Carr had Cooper, not a fair comparison. Cooper thought Michigan was "just another team" and the game was "just another game." Tressel prepares every week for scUM.

Michigan players react to coach Lloyd Carr's retirement announcement
Monday, November 19, 2007

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) _ Lloyd Carr walked into a team meeting Sunday only to be met with silence.

He exited the Schembechler Hall meeting room and entered again, this time receiving thunderous applause from his Michigan players, most of whom understood the announcement that was coming.

A day after Michigan suffered its fourth straight loss to rival Ohio State, Carr informed his players he will retire after 13 years at the helm of a program he guided to a national championship and five Big Ten championships.

Carr confirmed his decision to The Associated Press Sunday, but declined to comment further. A 10 a.m. news conference is scheduled for Monday when Carr will address the media, which learned of the news from players as they left Schembechler Hall on Sunday.

UM's Carr retires after 13 seasons

ANN ARBOR - Michigan coach Lloyd Carr will retire today after 13 seasons, ending an era marked by highs of winning a national championship and five Big Ten titles and lows of losing to Ohio State and Appalachian State. Carr told the Associated Press of his decision yesterday by phone, saying he wouldn't comment further until a news conference this morning at the school. The 62-year-old coach informed his players and staff of his retirement yesterday during a team meeting at Schembechler Hall.

Bob Hunter commentary: There's good, bad to Carr's retirement

Monday, November 19, 2007 2:31 AM
By Bob Hunter

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When Michigan coach Lloyd Carr retires today, most Ohio State fans will be sorry to see him go. Carr had become the man who couldn't beat the Buckeyes, which in an odd way made him Ohio State's best friend. The relationship is a little more complicated than that, though. As comfortable as Ohio State fans have become with a scowling Carr patrolling the Michigan sideline like a guy with an angry stomach virus, he was administering a slow, painful death to their favorite rivalry.

Carr's record at Michigan

Monday, November 19, 2007 2:23 AM

I didn't realize that '97 was the only season in Carr's 13yr career in which TSUN lost less than 2 games.

On a side note, it's clear that since the anouncement (or speculation since sat.) there are a lot less references to LLLLoyd, and more as just "Carr". I guess a gesture of respect, on the way out

AP Story with Quotes from Jim Tressel:

"Lloyd Carr is one of the true gentlemen of college football," Tressel said Sunday. "His legacy is extraordinary and his leadership in the coaching profession is greatly appreciated. He made a difference in collegiate athletics."

Notes from the Press Conference from MLive:

"The last 39 years, I have spent my life in the greatest of games and loved every moment of it. For the last 28 years, I've had the greatest of jobs."
After 13 seasons as Michigan's head coach, a span that included five Big Ten titles and a national championship in 1997, Carr has decided to step down, effective after Michigan's bowl game.
After Carr coaches his last game at Michigan, in a bowl yet to be determined, he'll accept a job in the athletic department as an associate athletic director. According to his contract, Carr will be paid at the rate of his base annual salary, currently $387,883.58.

Audio of the Conference - no transcript at present:

I hate the weasels as much as anyone else, but you've got to respect Lloyd Carr as a person and a coach. He's done an awful lot for scUM and for college football, and he did it the right way. I hope that his replacement can fill his shoes on all accounts and keep our rivalry as the best that sports has to offer. Congrats to Carr on a great career!

Now, having said that, I'm ready for our next meeting at The 'Shoe, when we get a chance to own the weasels again.
