I went over to sackcarr.com and read a few posts by 1OSUNUT. Does anyone know who he is? BN poster? BP poster? He's made several good posts over there. I was just curious if anyone who follows all the Buckeye boards (I'm only really familiar with BP and the Ozone) could help me out.

Interesting article about Lloyd Carr...

Not so sure last year's 5 loss team will win a national championship this year like the article seems to imply, but I do like how he notes that Michigan has only won two AP titles since 1936. The "victors" indeed. Yeah...whatever... Anyway, here is the link and the article:

Michigan has had its man all along
May 17, 2006

Matt Hayes

So I'm on a radio show in Michigan the other day and the host begins our lovely conversation with this jewel: "Since Lloyd Carr is on the hot seat . . . " He then goes off on a tirade -- I kid you not, I was throwing a tennis ball to my dog to pass the time -- about the lousy state of the Michigan program, thus underscoring the concept of talk radio: He who yells the loudest wins.
But it gets me thinking. Those too close to a situation can't see it for what it's really worth. I'm talking fans, boosters and, yes, even talk radio slugs. Lloyd Carr on the hot seat? Please. Let's review the Carr resume in 11 seasons at Michigan, shall we?
One national championship.
Five Big Ten titles (ties count, people).
102 wins in 136 career games.
No NCAA issues.
And, saving the best for last: He somehow has found a way to make TV sideline reporters look even more useless than they are.
Add that up and I'd say Carr leaves when he wants. I can tell you what won't make him leave: pinheads in the media (I'm a card-carrying member) and wacko fans calling for his job.
Has Michigan underachieved of late? No question. But that certainly doesn't lump Carr in with the Gary Pinkels of the world. Which brings us back to our radio host, who insists a lack of vision has kept Michigan from winning multiple national titles under Carr. My response: that or someone other than John Cooper coaching at Ohio State. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="50%" align=right border=0><TBODY><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TD class=v10>Cool your jets -- it's not that hot in here </TD></TR><TR></TR><TR><TD class=v11>Lloyd Carr isn't the only coach "on the hot seat" according to demanding fans. Three others who are no more in trouble than Nick Lachey after the big breakup:

</TD></TR><TR></TR><TR><TD class=v11>Ralph Friedgen, Maryland. After 31 wins in his first three seasons, Fridge is 10-12 in the past two, and the shine has worn off. The Terps haven't won because they haven't gotten efficient quarterback play. Fridge might have to wait until Josh Portis is eligible in 2007 for things to change.

</TD></TR><TR></TR><TR><TD class=v11>Joe Tiller, Purdue. What was Purdue again before Tiller? Oh, right, a barren wasteland. Tiller let his players get by with too much the last two years, and it created a dangerous me-first attitude. He vows things will change beginning this season.

</TD></TR><TR></TR><TR><TD class=v11>Phil Fulmer, Tennessee. The issue: UT hasn't done squat since winning the national title in 1998. (OK, three SEC East titles have to mean something, right?) But you don't fire a coach who has an 82-24 career record in SEC games.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
This agitates our hero, who responds by -- how else? -- yelling louder.
Radio guy: "After last year, are you seriously trying to tell me Carr has done a good job with this program!?"
Me: "What I'm saying is, my 15-year-old, nearly blind, deaf dog just performed what looked like a triple lutz trying to get his ball."
The reality is Carr has done as much as, or more than, any of the previous all-exalted coaches in Ann Arbor. Since the Associated Press first began naming national champions in 1936, Michigan has won two AP titles: in 1948 under Bennie Oosterbaan -- yeah, that Bennie Oosterbaan -- and under Carr in 1997.
This year's team -- this group with more offensive skill talent than any team in the nation -- could find a way to Phoenix to play for another title.
The Wolverines lost five games by a combined 21 points last year -- all in the fourth quarter. This group has similarities to the 1997 team. That team started the season ranked No. 14 in the AP poll, and the 2006 Wolverines probably will start their season in the same neighborhood. Also, Mike DeBord was the offensive coordinator for the '97 team and returns to that role this season.
But the difference in talent between the '97 offense and this one is like the difference in talent between my first wife ("Can I have more money?") and my current wife ("Can we watch the Rose Bowl one more time?")--if you know what I mean.
After what seems like hours, our happy host finishes the interview by stating, "I guarantee if Carr doesn't win at least nine games, he's in trouble, pal!"
I kindly remind Mr. Host that since 2000, three teams (Oklahoma, Ohio State and LSU) have followed five-loss seasons with national titles. Suddenly, there is silence. Where's that tennis ball again?

Why dont' Michigan people remember that Gary Moeller was responsible for a lot of the 1997 talent?

Don't get me wrong, people can say the same thing abotu Tress and Cooper's talent in 02... still... Look at Tress' record after his last Cooper player played a signifigant role and Carr's since Moeller's kids were gone. IN short, it appears Tressel is doing just fine - coaching top rated players to top rated seasons. Carr? Not so much.

That Five Loss-to-National Champs angle actually has more to it. Besides Oklahoma, Ohio State, and LSU, Auburn also went 8-5 in 2003. Hell, Penn State went 4-7 in 2004 and was literally one or two plays away from playing in the national championship game last season. I agree with the writer that a past seasons performance doesn't predict future success. Nowhere is this more pronounced than in college sports.

I don't think Michigan has more offensive talent than us. In fact, I know they don't.

Not exactly the late-game resiliency of a national champion team.

Except they won't play The Game at home, against a Cooper-coached team.

Obviously. Hart's going to find it tough sleddin' in the trenches without a legit vertical passing game. Manningham and Bass could be those guys, but I think they (and Henne) are still a year away.

Then again, everyone said the same thing about OSU when the 2002 season began ... so what does anyone know? :p

Translation: M*ch*g*n STILL sucks.

That's kinda funny. Carr has done more than ANY of his predecessors?! Awww... come on! What about all those great things M*ch*g*n did back in the days of leather helmets and steam engines? You can't tell me this schmuck is the ONLY M*ch*g*n fan who doesn't know about the Wolverweenies' glory days - back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and M*ch*g*n won all their games because everybody else was too busy beating rocks together to worry about football!

Indeed, Michigan's 11 national championships are the stuff of legend.

Well, that sounds better than the number of football titles TSUN has won in the Coaches poll, which started in 1950:

Zero.
