Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Can someone go brainwash Bosh and Wade into not opting out of their current contracts? Speaking of placate how much will those 2 give up to keep hanging on Lebron's nuts?
I was listening to ESP(i)N this morning. They talked about Bosh and Wade opting out and getting "more" money over a longer contract but at a discounted rate per year, like 50M over 5 years....

Wade will be on his 9th knee replacement by then. No way they sacrifice that much long-term cap space due to his "loyalty." But what do I know? They seem to be stuck on resigning this core of players with notion of pushing back their eventual demise for another couple of years.

well right now he's due $40M over 2 years ~$20M per.... at $50 or $60 over 5 years you're looking at $10 to $12 per year....

The other thing i heard.. its its likely going to be a 1 year deal with a player option or a 3 year deal with an opt out after 2016.... I guess the new TV deal is going into place then so they think the cap is going to get a big bump.... is the NBA doing that well ratings wise?

I had actually heard at one point a while back (a year or two ago) that it was down or had at least plateaud after years of growth. I lost interest a few years ago with the emergence of these "super teams" and as it became more of a rap video/wwf hybrid. I think it's still very popular with the 18-25 demographic, but losing some of the 26-49 interest.

I follow the offseasons/draft fairly closely, but I haven't watched a full game in several years, and don't recall watching any of this past season.

Same here... I find it tough to watch any basketball except the Buckeyes, and even that is pretty harsh on the eyes... However it would be sweet to see that they have peaked and start to decline.

My point is that I don't understand why the Heat would want to restructure his contract so that it pays out over a longer period of time while delaying the inevitable downturn that the team is sure to make. I get that the move would open up cap space, but he's not worth more than $5 mil per year on the open market. Unless they would put in team options after the 2nd year, the extension - even at a lower yearly salary - wouldn't make sense to me.

The best possible scenario I see is that Wade takes a short contract for no more than $10 million per year, Bosh signs a 3-4 year deal for $13-15 million per year, and James takes a one year pay cut to see what they can do in the short term. Even if they do this, they will lack depth at every position. This team will be in the basement in 3 years no matter what.

@NFBuck nailed with his post, summarizing:

Pat Riley dont give a fuck about the long term.

Lebron should, for the rest of his career, sign 3-4 year deals with a player option after one year. He has that much power and he should exert it.

He could probably do that once, maybe twice if he got out of the first one after a year or two. Within 4 years he'll need to sign a max deal for as long as he can to take him through the end of his career. I look forward to a game a few years from now when Wiggins is running circles around Lebron. Of course Lebron in 6-7 years will be Bennett on his best day.
