Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

As far as the Browns go, they weren't even AROUND during the Lebrons childhood, it shouldn't be all that big of a shocker that hes rooting for someone else. Pretty much every kid liked the Bulls in that generation aswell. All the kids coming into the NBA now wanted to be like MJ.

Really the only reason this is a problem is that Lebron happens to be from the Cleveland area, you don't think there aren't a ton of other athletes on the Cavs, Browns or Indians from other parts of the country that still root for different teams?

LBJ is like 6 months younger than me... and the Browns WERE around during my childhood. I wore my Bernie Kosar uniform almost every day when I got home from Kindergarten/1st grade... they left in 95... so LBJ became a FRONTRUNNER during his preteen years

... but I'm still glad he's on the Cavs... but wouldn't expect him to stay in Cleveland... I left for more opportunity, I'm sure he has a lot more.

Who gives a dam what teams he likes. I remember CC Sabathia saying that if he was ever at the Dawg Pound for a Raiders-Browns game, he'd deck out in Raider gear. Let him root for whatever bloody team he wants. I'll be honest here, I was a band-wagon jumper Buckeye fan. I have no connection to OSU, I have no family that went there, I have never gone there (I might for grad school). I became a fan in 2001 when they prevented TSUN from winning the Big 10 outright.

I know Bron personally. We were on the same peewee football team, he was our QB. That was in 1995, he wore #22 because he wanted to be like Emmitt Smith. He's always been a Cowboys and Bulls fan for as long as I've known him. As far as the Stankees, I have no clue how long he's liked them. Maybe just because of the star power, who knows.

Is there just not a connection to Cleveland, growing up in Akron? I'd have thought being that close to a major sports city, most would be avid followers of the Indians, Browns, Cavs....

I don't remeber who else it was, but someone else fairly famous from Akron, wasn't much of a Cleveland supporter either....maybe Pittman, I really don't recall though.

I read in an article after the Yankees/Indians game uproar that brought up the point that Lebron grew up without a major father figure. The argument was that a lof of people form allegiances to teams based on where they grew up and important people in their live. I grew up a Browns/Indians/Cavs/Buckeyes fan not only because I grew up in Canton but because my dad was an avid follower of all of those teams. It was my dad's passion that got me hooked on those teams. Lebron didn't have a dad's passion to influence him. He chose to root for teams that were popular, I find no fault in that.

We were all Cowboys fans actually, lol. I only liked them because of Deion Sanders. Every team he played on was my favorite team (I was 9 or 10, so what...lol). Pitt, Bron, and myself all had Cowboys jerseys....hell, our peewee team's logo is a Star, and our colors are Silver, Blue, and White. The only one who was a fan of all things Cleveland was Tyrell Sutton.

Any true CLEVELAND FAN cannot possibly like Lebron James. He roots for the yankees, cowboys, and as a child, the bulls. What a freakin' front runner!! Ahhh I wish he'd take a offer with Russia or China and see how fun it would be playing in a communist nation. Maybe he'd even pull a Becky Hammon, and play for their national team. Wow that'd be great, just keep stabbing us loyal Cleveland Fans in the back. WONDERFUL!

Seems to me he likes teams that win. Could be the reason the only OH team he really roots for is the Buckeyes.

Also, I heard at the Cowboys game he first went to the Browns sidelines and no players came over to talk to him so he wandered over to the Cowboys side.

The only favorite team of his that matters is the Cavs. When you're young and impressionable, it's easy to start liking out of state teams for any number of reasons. Once you start liking that team, for whatever reason, you usually stick with them. I loved the look of the Raiders and A's uniforms when I was 8 or 9, loved Otis Sistrunk and Joe Rudi, so I stayed with them since then. Whenever we played football, I was Otis on defense and Fred Billitnikoff on offense. During baseball I was always Joe Rudi and Vida Blue. I never went to Indians or Browns games so I can understand the earlier explanation about going to games and liking those teams. The only games that I went to alot growing up were the Cavs and they're the only local team that I like.

Lebron will kick some major ass this season.

I agree. My parents don't like sports at all, I'm first generation born and raised in the U.S., so I became a fan of teams that were winning too. I got into baseball in 1998, when the Cubs won the wild-card, I got into basketball during the Bulls dynasty. Truth too, first NFL team I liked was the Minnesota Vikings because I got into the NFL in 1998, when the Vikings were good, but I became a Bears fan in 2001 when they won the division and realized how much of a jerk Randy Moss is

Owner: Speculation that LeBron will leave Cleveland 'insult to the city'

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert says the speculation that LeBron James will leave Cleveland in two years is out of line and "an insult to the city."

Gilbert says it's nothing more than conjecture from bored sports reporters.
He says James has given no indication that he plans to leave for New York after his contract expires in 2010.
Gilbert spoke to the media Thursday at the Cavaliers' practice facility. He says the Cavs can compete for a championship the next two seasons and that worrying about a contract extension for James is two summers away.
