Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

They don't need McDyess anyway. They certainly don't need Vince Carter. Get over that idea.

IKf they get anyone, it will be with Wallys expiring and the 2009 first round pick. I'm not even sure who is available. The only name I can think of would be Gerald Wallace.

Ben said he thinks he's going back to Detroit. Hopefully the Cavs can crush them tonight and make him change his mind since he wants to play for a team that can win it all.
I knew about the money difference but I and also heard some talk that may be Big Ben might be able to talk to Antonio coming to Cleveland instead of Detroit. Really can't see that much difference in the two cities. Guess it all depends on what you are looking at.

Who brought that up? That's almost as bad of an idea as bringing back Larry Hughes. I'm still dreaming of Redd. I'd take Gerald Wallace as well except where do you put him?

I have no problem with the team as it is now, unless you could do something to bring a starting PF in that can play defense and score, but don't see that happening, or bring in a guy like Redd, but right now this team is playing very well with West and Boobie, we need a replacement for Wally and I would be fine with Sasha...We don't really need a starter, I think West is playing just fine...

they will need another big by the time the trade deadline rolls around. if you think Z and Ben will continually play at this level for 82 games you're fooling yourself. last night against detroit was the first time you saw some tired legs this season.

ESPN Hype Machine in full-force for LeBron to NY along with Wade, Amare, or Bosh.

Jalen Rose, through a source, claims LeBron to NY is a done deal and that Bosh will be the other player.

Stephen A. has been banging the NY drum since last year, saying those close to LeBron have told him he will leave.

I'm not sure what Gilbert can do other than surrond him with talent and hope he resigns a max-contract. Personally, I don't think it will be enough. It'd be nice if they could put together some back-room deal allowing for part ownership or something crazy when he retires. The amount of money the Cavs will have to compete with (Nike, Coca-Cola, etc.) along with league pressure (headquartered in NY) is going to be tough to overcome.

Hopefully Screamin' A and Jalen are getting bad info...

The cavs are set up to be able to do the same exact thing in 2010 except they can offer Lebron another year and more money. They will be able to offer a max contract to Bosh, D-wade, or one of the other free agents too. And if Lebron does leave so be it the Cavs will pretty much die but I'm going to enjoy him for the next two seasons either way.

1. jalen rose doesn't know jack [censored].

2. screamin a. smith is jack [censored].

3. cleveland can offer LBJ more years and more money.

4. the knicks will still be a mismanaged horse abortion of a franchise in 2 years.

More years and more money means nothing. If you think Cavs management can keep LBJ in Cleveland with smart personnel decesions, that makes sense.

But Cleveland will not even come in the same vacinity money-wise as to what LeBron can make in NY. LeBron will have to leave millions of dollars on the table to stay in Cleveland. The marketing dollars in New York are astronomical in comparison to Cleveland.

LeBron currently makes 3-4 x's more money in endorsements than his NBA contract. His NBA salary (max deal/max years) will be more in Cleveland, but it is peanuts in comparison to the marketing dollars. If it becomes a business decesion and about the money, Cleveland has little chance. Hopefully a great team is in place and LeBron feels Cleveland is the best place to win a championship(s). Really, the best chance for LeBron to stay IMO, is for Cleveland to win a title this year or next year. He'd look very greedy to leave a championship team for the dollars in NY.

Hoopshype.com reported this morning the plan is already in place for New York to offer LeBron and Bosh max deals, and have enough room under the cap to sign Steve Nash(he won't get a max deal, and will only have a few years of decent bball left). That's their goal right now. Cleveland needs to put even more talent around LBJ and make LeBron feel like he's walking into a worse situation in New York to have any chance.

And no matter what you think of the Knicks management, in 2010 they will be in a position to basically recreate their roster. It doesn't take a good GM to offer 2 superstars max deals, sign a few role players, and win titles. And I think Donnie Walsh is pretty respected amongst NBA circles....this isn't Isiah Thomas' project anymore.

I just hope Danny Ferry can make the situation in Cleveland to good to walk away from.

the NY marketing angle is the biggest red herring ever.

there are no clauses in any of LBJ's endoresment contracts that pay him more to go to NY or LA.

LeBrons marketing deals aren't contracted for life. He signed a 7 year, 90 million dollar deal out of high school.

That means he renegotiates his shoe contract in 2010. Being a superstar basketball player in the largest market in the world, is a crazy amount of leverage. It is worth additional millions of dollars.

LeBron is going to make MILLIONS no matter where he is, but being in New York is worth more. It isn't a red herring at all, IMO.

This much is true, add in the fact that some childhood friends of his are influencing him to go to the bigger market. Whenever he and I speak, I don't mention it to him, but 9 out of 10 of his "inner circle" friends don't have his best interest at heart. They are just along for the free ride. He's surrounded by a bunch of "Yes men". Not to mention he invested in an up-and-coming Cleveland-based record label. Where else is better than New York to get a hip-hop label off the ground, not to mention under the tutelage of Jay-Z. I used to think that the love of his hometown would keep him in Cleveland, but he's never even in Akron, even during the offseason.

There is a misconception here... he is already THE monster in the largest market in the world.. and the largest market is NOT NY... that's decades in the past... He is a monster in CHINA... China is the largest market in the world... which validates and invalidates your last sentence...
