Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

I have tried to buy into the concept that A) He wants to win; and B) He knows his best chance is in Cleveland.

But would this team have/had a better chance to win the title this year if he wasn't continuing to fuel the speculation? Would we have had a better chance with free agents? And does it help to hold your franchise and your fans hostage, not knowing if you'll be here for the long run?

What he is doing is not consistent with wanting to be here and wanting to win. It is entirely consistent with what someone would do if they had one foot out the door already.

I know I get mocked for it. I guess I don't care because I'm pretty secure with my status as a real Cavs fan, not just some Johnny ComeLately. I was here before Lebron. I will be here after. And I really do believe this franchise is bigger than Lebron. His antics, financially motivated or not, [censored] me off.

I remember posting this a while back. Lebron made the last couple of seasons painful by fueling the speculation. I'm glad he's gone. We may not win [censored], but I will at least respect the guys on the floor. I stopped respecting Lebron a while ago.

Enjoy your titles Bitchmade. I doubt he even cares what us nobodies think about him, but at least we don't have to pretend like he's more important than the franchise anymore. The fans (thankfully) have spoken loud and clear that its about the Cavs and the City of Cleveland, not some asshole sucking off Dwade at the Birdcage in South Beach.

In what I think is a good sign for the Cavs, LeBron will be changing numbers from 23 to 6, most likely, starting next season. Not that he didn't seem genuine in his comments in regards to Michael Jordan, and how the number should be retired by the NBA, but it's a bit silly.

If LeBron stays in Cleveland, this is an amazing way to capture millions more in LBJ jersey sales. Think about how many 23 authentic James' jerseys have been sold, and how many people with the #23 will buy the new #6? I'd say conservatively, worldwide 2million jersey are sold at close to $150 a pop for authentic jerseys right off the bat.....close to $30 mil.....

It's a great way for Nike to drum up revenue in the event LeBron doesn't already have a new jersey for next year, IMO.

Some entertaining reading throughout this thread...came across this one. If we only knew LeBron was persuaded to do this by Pat Riley that day during a lunch approved by Cavs management. Such a joke LeBron was so easily persuaded to give up #23 and announce it on national TV after 1 meeting with Pat Riley and Jordan.

No, he would only have been a traitor if he was drafted by another team then didn't sign with Cleveland when he became a free agent.

I was hoping you were kidding with this. Then I saw this..

Hypothetical.

James is drafted by Miami. Seven years later he is deciding where to play as a free agent. It is narrowed Down to New York, Celveland, and staying at Miami. During the 8 days of free agency James comes to visit the Cleveland Cavs management after coming off back to back MVP seasons. Cleveland pulls out all the stops during this "recruiting visit". All reports come out that Cleveland is in the final 3 and that he is a Cleveland lean. Cleveland fans start salivating over the possibility that the best player in the game is coming to their town. Sports talk lines are blowing about all about The King is coming home! Can you beleive it! The King is coming home!!

Next thing you know....he stays with Miami.

You don't think a large portion of Cavs fans would think he is a traitor? Using the same logic that has been used earlier about Ohio pride and what he owes his hometown city. Is it that farfetched?

Yes, it is far-fetched.

You must not be reading what the Cleveland fans in this thread are posting.

My apologies if this was already posted in this thread. I didn't see it.

Wow.
Inside look at LeBron's free-agent coup - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

For those who aren't parents, this single paragraph may have gone unnoticed, but it's the one that really boiled my blood:

Within days of the season?s end, James and Carter traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the birthday party of New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul?s young son. With James on the premises, rules for the toddler?s birthday party included no photos, no video.

It is incomprehensible to me that anyone would care more about entertaining some egomaniac than they would about preserving a one-of-a-kind, irretrievable moment in their own child's life. You preserve it for yourself, you preserve it for the person your child will someday be after time has swept away all but vague memories of their childhood.

It is utterly beyond me to fathom the arrogance of anyone who would make such a demand of another, never mind being the kind of soulless sycophant who would acquiesce to such a demand.

That article was disappointing to say the least. I can't believe he did such a good job of hiding that stuff. Can't believe I thought he seemed like a good dude.

Not trying to take away from the good things he has done for many communities.. just covering bases here, because I'm sure a Lebron crusader will call me out on that. You can do good things for the community and still suck as a person. Especially when image is on the line.

I wouldn't take the average BP poster as an archetype for anything outside of these boards.

I don't, but we're on these boards.

And I think it's pretty unreasonable to think Cleveland fans would hate Lebron like they do now if the situation had happened like he said. Hard to build the same level of a connection with the fans when you're in a different city, building a connection with those fans. I doubt he would've said he'd bring a championship to Cleveland while playing in another city, either, and if he had went on national television to leave his team, it wouldn't have been Cleveland he was slapping in the face.

So the hypothetical is pretty... well.. stupid, imo.

thehoopdoctors - Penny Hardaway Wants to Play for Miami

...when the decision happened with Chris Bosh and LeBron, I felt like I could really be good in that system.

"I can understand where Michael Jordan was coming from coming out of retirement a couple times, I can understand where Brett Favre is right now," Hardaway said. "When you still have something in the tank it's really hard to let it go."

Right Penny, you're right up there with Jordan and Favre. :roll2:

Nick Saban slams Miami Heat?s LeBron James trust, respect

When addressing leadership, the topic of LeBron James? nationally televised announcement of his signing with the Miami Heat came up. ?The way (James) managed what he just did speaks volumes about who he is and whether he is a team guy ? not because he left Cleveland, but the way he did it,? Saban said. ? ? That?s not the kind of trust and respect you?d like to have in a team organization.? ? Ledger-Enquirer
