Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Wow, I think I see a few names of "free enterprisers" in this massive "fuck LeBron" fest. It's a business, he's a businessman. Are you telling me that if your company, or another company, made you what you consider to be a better deal in another city you wouldn't take it? Better still, what if your company had the right to trade you, or if your profession kept you from taking the best offer straight out of school?

If Lebron is as bad as Gilbert painted him to be in his letter then why were the Cavs trying to sign him anyway?

If I am a player and see the meltdown and back stabbing that jst went down in that letter why do I even think about signing with cleveland? What must the rest of that lockerroom think Gilbert really thinks about them?

People talk about loyalty on here. So what about when a player is loyal to a team, yet the team cuts him in the middle of a contract?

Lebron left as a free agent, he was free to sign anywhere he wanted. He litened to all the offers and went to the team that he felt he had the best chance to reach his goals period. The melt down and attacks in this thread and out there in the real world show how classless most cleveland fans truely are.

Eh, I don't think it was a big deal. He called a press conference. Big whoop. He likes the star treatment. Is that a surprise? He acts in commercials and has hosted SNL. I don't think it really mattered how Lebron announced it. There still would be thousands of fans acting butthurt. I get the disappointment. Just think the reasoning is bs. People calling him a bitch and every other insult imaginable is only because of him stringing everyone along until his press conference? Really? It was going to be a public spectacle no matter what because of his high profile.

You must have missed the way that DWade and Durant (also two of the best players in the NBA) announced their decision. Hell, you must have missed the way ANY free agent in the history of the NBA announced his decision.

Gave him what for example?

Oh, I don't know, maybe this for starters:

Gilbert hired one of James' friends and paid him more than some assistant coaches to hang out with the team so James would be comfortable. Gilbert allowed members of James' management team to fly on the team jet. He spent $25 million to construct a practice facility that was located 20 minutes closer to James' home than the old one. He rebuilt the locker room. He hired a masseur to travel on the road because James likes massages.

Gilbert lets out his frustration - ESPN

Next time, please try to do some research. Oh wait--I forgot that ignorantly throwing out words that are only intended to incite people is part of your "schtick."

There was no "back stabbing" in that letter. A LOT of ugly text, but no actual "back stabbing". Sure Gilbert's fired up, but the guy is trying to win a championship and just got massively...and publicly dicked over by his key piece who he has stretched to appease for years now. Obviously their relationship prior to the media whorefest decision, wasn't so bad. You pull a move like that, the way it was done and it can destroy anything built up over time.

Example?

All the community effort and donating time and money to local causes in Akron/Cleveland made him seem like something of a good person. Yes, the way LBJ did this tonight was wrong, but it would still get the same reaction as if the AP just released a statement from Lebron stating that he was leaving.

How about for starters quitting in the playoffs...Dragging this out, telling the front office he was still coming back, saying he was going to bring a championship to cleveland the city he loved so much. It is a cop out, because he couldn't get it done here and he wants to take the easy way.

All those things were a facade, he showed no emotion towards leaving the city that made him what he is, putting him up on a pedestal as the king, when if you were really seeing him was a true fallacy. The is the worst part of it, in that he had so many fooled by doing these things around the community that the city believed in him.

He not only lost fans from Cleveland, but quite a bit more from around the league.

And the quote that still gets me the most, is I hope my fans stick with me. No your fans will not, because fans are not fans of individual players, they don't go as you go, they stick with their team.

And his whole my team bullshit or his possee is a laughing stock of what he is.

I have been an observer on this site for a long time and never posted but I thought this would be a good topic to start.

I graduated High school 2 years ahead of LBJ and watched him play at the Schott for the basketball State Final Four while my team was there (smaller division). I wish him well in South beach and hope he gets what he wanted most, whatever that may be. I say this b/c he does not owe me anything as a fellow Ohioan but as a fan I will always follow him wherever he goes. I also think LBJ left for his own personal reasons, which I am ok with. Goodluck LBJ and represent Ohio well in Florida and in the NBA!

:osu:

Nice post! However, if he came out and just signed to play for Miami, I would be OK with that. It is how he did it. Even my wife, who is not a sports fan, said what an egocentric asshole when watching the interview. Lebron James is a great talent but a man by a man's standards, he is not. Yes as a free agent he can go where he chooses but in the mean time he can rub the Cavaliers fans and ownerships face in it? Wrong answer. While not as bad as what Modell did, it is close.

Lebron James could not deliver the goods to his home team. You can make all the arguments you want that like he did not have the support around him or it was bad coaching. I agree but in the end James did not deliver, he QUIT! Anyone with an ounce of SPORTS knowledge saw it in the playoffs against Boston. Lebron James with all the physical skills in the world has not yet learned what the some recent great ones (Jordan, Magic, Bird and Kobe) and teams (Pistons, Spurs and Celtics) have learned. The mental and spiritual toughness to carry the team or bring the team together to give them the will to win. Yes the four players mentioned had great supporting casts and excellent coaches but when it came to step up, Lebron could not raise his mental level of play to accomplish wha they did. When the team was down, he could not raise their level of play instead he attempted to take over games he wasn't prepared too.

I wish Lebron the best in life but not in basketball. I am Cavs fan not a Lebron fan and I hope ownership gets smarter about the players they bring in and I think Scott will be an effective coach better than Brown as well. Good luck Cleveland.

certainly not. and the high tax environment of ohio didnt help lebron and it does not help other businesses.

a few takeaways was his whole approach. what he did for the city, what he did for the fans, etc. its a two way street and those folks paid your paychecks.

then again its all about approach and stringing along every team was a bad idea, having it 8 miles from the knickerbockers practice facility was a bad idea, having it announced live on national tv was a bad idea, using it as a personal promo ad was a bad idea, parading it as for the boys and girls club turned out to be a bad idea.

all that aside what the nba really needs to learn from all of this is the week moratorium isnt the good idea it seems. hockey sees all stars move in free agency every year, what they have is same day you become a free agent and you can sign, thus the spectacle is reserved a tad more.

at the end of the day he doesnt owe anyone squat, but nor does anyone owe him squat. and hell hear it in the arenas for the rest of his career, for better or worse.

And when he shows up on the Buckeye sideline, rooting for the Bucks, are you still going to call him "Bitchmade?"

Keep him the fuck away from the Shoe. The Traitor isn't a Buckeye anymore. Maybe he can come to the game with the U next year and stand on the Miami sideline.

I have to think that Nike is upset with this decision. Their most marketable asset isn't even the #1 player on his own team anymore. Coward

Fuckin' Wilber and Orville... those two fucks -- Dayton educates them, buys their bikes and shit, surrounds them with love and then they take their airplane and fly it in North Carolina. Bitchmade bitches. I'm gonna take my Wright flyer model and burn the fucker right now...
