Unnecessarily giving your week one and most challenging opponent motivational material all off season doesn’t seem like the actions of a first time coach ready for prime time.Hopefully, he's a Gerry Faust-level disaster and taking a Sunbelt DC gig in 2025.

But now, Freeman is claiming that the quote making rounds was not completely accurate and he reached out to 97.1 The Fan to clarify his comments.
“I wanted to set the record straight. I was misquoted by Dennis Dodd in this article, and key words were missing from the quote that upset a lot of people that I care about,” Freeman told 97.1 The Fan. “I’m very proud of my two degrees from Ohio State. I would never discredit the quality of education those degrees represent. I was just specifically really talking about the academic rigors of Notre Dame.”
It’s really not hard to discuss academic standards and student class requirements without disparaging another university in the process.
ND has always had an exceptional undergraduate program. Compared to tOSU certainly. However, when one considers that the entire student body at ND is the size of one class at tOSU, we offer many more subjects, majors if you will, than ND by far. With more majors comes dilution of results. Certainly the number of students alters the bell curve, as opposed to being private and being able to 'cherry pick' applicants, versus a Land Grant university, designed to offer a good education to all (in this case Ahians). No one questions Northwestern's academics in the B10, but NW's sports do not compare with ND. Or like Stanford on the Left Coast (where I reside). To state that tOSU students don't go to class is laughable - COVID year(s) excepted). Most colleges have morphed into a combination of in-class and not-in-class. Hard to do a chemistry lab from home/apartment. Anyway, I stand by my #714 statements, that MF is trying to 'make his bones' as an D-1 coach at a once elite school, and is fumbling it badly. Let's see him walk the walk before he talks the talk. Go Buckeyes!
