LB Marcus Freeman (HC Notre Dame, Constant Backtracker)

Should have kept his offense out there for the 4th down punt fake. QB power was working and OSU probably almost concedes 2 yards so nothing gets broken deep. They were fine with a long drive. Great recognition by the Buckeyes.

Deserved a missed FG for that cowardly decision too.

Overall looked like a coach that knew he was outmanned. Took a while for him and team to get settled in. Credit for the fight. He’s going to learn. He’s building something there. And I don’t like it.

I think he'll have ND a regular CFP participant and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets Natty, I think he's that good. A lot of/most teams would roll over after the way they got steamrolled in the first half. But he kept them locked in and got it to a point that we had to sweat some in the 4th quarter. And he did that with a far less talented roster and a QB who was not at all built to engineer large comebacks because of his limitations. If he gets a QB that can give them a balanced offense, they'll be a major problem, with his defensive background we can assume ND will mostly be solid on that side. Makes good choices in coordinators, too. Will be interesting to see if ND can keep him around. He has another strong season or two, any major program with a vacancy will sniff around him and likely the NFL, too.

“BE WHERE YOUR FEET ARE.” Jim Tressel offered Marcus Freeman the best advice he’s ever received.

In an appearance on Next Up with Adam Breneman, Freeman discussed what he’s learned as Notre Dame’s head football coach, how the Irish will bounce back from their national championship loss to the Buckeyes and more.

Part of the “and more” includes the wisdom Tressel imparted to him after Freeman left his role as a graduate assistant at Ohio State to become the linebackers coach at Kent State.

“Be where your feet are,” Freeman said, reflecting on the advice Tressel shared with him before he departed Columbus. “It probably meant something different when he told me as I was getting ready to leave Ohio State to go to Kent State than it does right now. To me, I use that to remember, like, focus on what’s in front of you. Don’t waste time daydreaming about an uncertain future or things that don’t matter. Use your energy on the things that matter.”

That’s not coaching or football advice.

That’s life advice.

And it’s darn good.
