LB Chris Spielman (2x All-American, 4x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, CFB HOF)

Chris Spielman's knowledge of the game of football, is so good.

After watching the game with Maryland, I thought to myself and wondered if Urban Meyer ever considered adding Spielman to his coaching staff? Maybe he did and I am not aware of it.

His explanation of the game, as it progresses, is so understandable and pure. I just wish he could have been one of our defensive coaches.

When Urban Meyer and Spielman were up in the TV booth(year 2011) announcing the games, they seemed to work pretty good together
It was like a "hand & glove"thing when they exchanged others opinion. I'ii bet Chris asked Meyer many times, if he would like to go back coaching again.

This... To all of the above. There is just such a level of no-nonsense and complete clarity in his observations.

That said, I wondered many of those thoughts above during the UMD game and shared them with my wife while we watched. I have it guess that coaching may just not be what he wants to do with his time.

Being a coach, I think to be a good one at least, requires a fairly significant emotional investment in the players and the team. After his last few years watching Stephanie pass, I can totally understand how some of that gas tank may be a little dry right now.

Either way, if he called every Buckeye game from now until I die, I would be totally OK by that. Best booth man in the biz.

I think he's a perfect consultant to anyone who wanted to learn the nuances of football or to a team needing an identity on defense. I don't think he wants to put his entire life and time into it like coaching would make him do but he'd probably be perfect for developing a new defense and teaching it to people at, say, clinics or a week seminar on a campus. Hell I don't even coach right now but I'd go to it.

Plus he is absolutely swamped with raising those kids on his own now. I would love to see him on our staff somewhere but I'm not sure how soon it would be even if he and UFM wanted him there. Until then, I will enjoy his broadcast ability though...easily my favorite commentator out there and not just because he is a great Buckeye.
