LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

The Heisman isn't about gamebreakers, necessarily, it's about the best player in college football.
Actually, I would disagree with this statement slightly. I don't think there was a better player in CFB last year than Bush, yet he barely got any votes and finished 5th. Crouch and Weinke weren't the best players in their years either IMO. The Heisman has seemed to be tied to top rankings as well for your team.

Just for the sake of discussion, Orlando Pace finished 4th in the heisman voting. However, I think he was more dominant at his position than AJ, and more once in a lifetime. AJ may be one of the greats that has played the position in the last decade, but Pace was hard to compare to anyone.

:slappy:
It's supposed to be about that. Of the last 5 Heisman winners, you can make an argument for 2 of them as the best player in college football. Chris Weinke? Eric Crouch- as a QB?
The Heisman is about the star/media darling player on the best (or one of the best) teams in the country. Also factored in are career stats (Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams). If the Heisman were about the best player in college football Randy Moss would have somehow turned his into a bong.

I don't know about the Heisman, but if there was a longevity award, Hawk is the guy. He has been more of a hard working, consistent, play maker for four solid years than any other athlete I can think of.

How about the Nobel Peace Prize? :)

I definitely think that A.J. deserves to be in the conversation. That said, I don't think he has much of a chance to win it (although I'd love to see him do so  ). I do, however, think there's a realistic shot that he'll be invited to New York, which would be great recognition, b/c defensive players often aren't even invited.

The best LB's in CFB are all in the Big Ten it seems. (of course that's about all I watch)

............................|--------Tackles--------|... |-Sacks-| |---Pass Def---| |-Fumbles-| Blkd
DEFENSIVE LEADERS GP Solo Ast Total TFL/Yds ....No-Yds .....Int-Yds BrUp QBH Rcv-Yds FF Kick Saf
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
47 Hawk, A.J. .........6...35....33...68......8.0(-29)..3.5(-21).......1-24...2.......................1
51 Schlegel, A ........6...15....27...42......3.0(-10)..1.0(-7)
42 Carpenter, B ......6...22....13...35......10.5(-72).8.0(-65)
31 Posluszny, Paul ..7 ..47.....35...82......6.5(-24)..2.0(-13)................2.......................1
41 McGarigle, Tim....6...40.....39...79......6.5(-20)..2.0(-11)................3.......2...............1
18 Greenway, Chad .7...59.....34...93......7.0(-17)..2.0(-6).................4.......1
52 Hodge, Abdul .....7...48.....32...80......7.0(-17)..1.0(-4).................1........................2

Hopefully this comes out readable. Looking at this i would say Carpenter is the impact player this year while Hawk is the defensive run stopper. Pretty good combo IMO. I only posted the top tackler's at Lb in the Big Ten.

AJ does not deserve to be in the heisman race IMO. LBs don't win heismans, period.

The heisman race is a three man race between Young, Bush and Leinhart IMO. And you probably have Stanton and Quinn and possibly Vick maybe in the race for 4 and 5 along with a few others. No one from the buckeyes belongs on the list IMO.

That said, Hawk will win Butkus in a landslide and Carpenter got robbed by not being on final 15.

Didn't Pace come in second that year?

I don't remember, did he come back for his senior season, or did he skip to the pro's. If your wondering why i don't know this, its because i've only been a big buckeye fan for about 4 years. Never really paid attention to football before that.
