LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

plenty of talking heads and publications have mentioned him before. He's just not a legit contender, so they wont' continue to put him up there most of the time. CFBNews has been touting him all year.

I know they'd never select him or any one-way defensive guy but why not even a mention to acknowledge his dominance. The guys as much a game changer as anybody in the running.

i wouldnt say he is as much as a game-changer as anybody in the running. IMO, being a qb or rb (leinhart, young, bush in this case) gives you the best chance of being a game changer. its not that he doesn't have the ability to change games, we all know he does, its just that being a rb or qb gives you a lot more opportunities to do so.

I argue that the attention he garners... the first downs he stops... the sacks he creates are worthy of some votes. Offenses must game plan for him and he still gets the job done. I know this is stretch because defenses rarely score touchdowns, but I'm sure he has more clutch plays on defense than Young, Bush etc. do on offense. Hawk influences nearly every play. He's awesome! If fans like us keep it alive, maybe he'll get more Heisman props.

"count for something"?

maybe

But I for one do not believe that where you rank as a pro prospect has more than a middling correlation to where you rank in the pantheon of college football players.

Now, back to the topic at hand. Yes, AJ deserves Heisman consideration. CFN.com has said that he should pitch a fit if he isn't invited to New York in December, and I agree.

This is all the proof I need that the Butkus is a certainty. Other LBs are getting Butkus pub, but ONLY AJ is getting mentioned for the Heisman.

i would love for hawk to win the heisman but for anybody who has played NCAA Football 06 and the Race for the Heisman feature, it shows how hard it is for a defensive player to win the award, you have to get mad, out of the world stats, and just like in the video game, hawk would have to have out of the world stats to get it, this is kinda like last year when Mike Nugent was getting consideration for it, we loved hearing his name in the consideration, but we truely knew that a kicker would not win the heisman, just like we know a LB will not win the heisman, the award has we drawn away from what it was, your team basically has to go undefeated to win or win a national championship, there has been one winner before that his team finished with a lossing record, but he was the best college football player, now to be the best you have to have your team go 12-0 and get to the Rose Bowl to even be considered

If Hawk had visibly led us to an undefeated season, then I think he should've been considered, but, through no fault of his own, he didn't. I don't see them inviting or even entertaining the idea of inviting Hawk to New York, now that we've lost two games.

The Heisman isn't about gamebreakers, necessarily, it's about the best player in college football.
Since when? Jason White wasn't the best player in his conference, or his team for that matter. Matt Leinart, as deserving as I thought he was to win last year, wasn't even voted the MVP of his team last year...Bush was. If Reggie Bush wins this year, then I think the best player in college football will have won, but the Heisman has never been about the best, it's always been about the hype, and it's hard to hype numbers that don't always add-up on the scoreboard.

A.J. faced off against Vince, and the Bucks lost. Vince drove the Longhorns to the game-winning TD, and had a pretty good game. Therefore, as of now, Vince (at least) deserves to be considered ahead of A.J. Just facts. No way I'd have A.J. ahead of Bush or Vince right now.
