Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

In the last home opener loss for OSU, they targeted Corey Smith an outrageous amount of times, and that was year 2 for Herman. The playcalling didn't shift until later in the season. Now the talent was inexperienced, but the trust/control between the OC/HC was very different by year's end.

Sooo...there's hope? Maybe?

I mean, I'd hope that Meyer has more respect and trust in Wilson that it won't take 2 years.

Disagree, #2 is the easiest cancer to cure by far. It's also the hardest to believe happened, IMO. #1 means Wilson isn't quite the genius that I thought he was, again IMO.
The solution to all of them is for Meyer to recognize himself in the mirror and humbly embrace change and improvement. I guess it's slightly easier to admit the fault if it's #2, but a death grip from a micro-manager remains the same persistent problem in each scenario.

As for the second part, the word you're looking for is magician, who can transform Barrett and ensnare the head coach in a trance.coach.

In the last 6 years (after 2011-2016), Indiana had these guys drafted:

1 QB (6th Sudfield)
2 RB (3 Coleman, 6 Howard)
1 WR (2 Lattimer)
2 OL (2 Spriggs, 3 Feeney)

They've had a little talent but not much, and frankly they look the same after they lose those guys because they scheme well vs OSU.

OSU vs IU

1 QB 1 (4 ....................... 6)
3 RB 2 (1, 2, 6 ............... 3, 6)
7 WR 1 (2, 7, 2, 3, 2, 6, 3 ... 2)
6 OL 1 (3, 1, 2, 5, 7, 2 ... 2, 3)
2 TE 0 (3, 3 ...................... 0)

They had 6/7 of the WRs, both TEs, the only QB and the top RB on their roster the last time Urban's offense finished well.

It's not rocket science. We have a guy who has been a dynamic playcaller for years who has run an offense for the last two weeks that looks very little like any other offense he's run previous to this.

If I've watched Kevin Wilson offenses for like 10 years and I'm currently watching an offense "run" by Kevin Wilson that looks nothing like those, I severely doubt he just up and decided to run the same putrid offense we were already running. Not to mention the fact that the ineffective screens and terribly timed QB runs we continue to see have long been staples of an offense on an Urban Meyer-coached team.

No, nobody has a firm confirmation that he's not the final decision maker on offense but if you're standing in a field and drops of water are falling on your head, do you really need a meteorologists opinion to know its raining?

My best guess is that Urban is not calling the plays, but he's managing the gameplan going into the game to the extent that there's little anyone can do to really correct the problems.

Don't have the link, but I believe I recall a clip... spring or summer camp, where KW noted that this would still be Urban's offense and him calling it. A few twists added, but still largely Urban.

That is, exactly, what I'm seeing.

Time to let KW sprinkle some pixie dust methinks.

Barrett has his limitations, but the talent and skill at Wilson's disposal is miles ahead of anything he's had in Bloomington. Also, in Bloomington his offense shifted drastically according to their talent. They would shift to being a two headed monster running team one year, and a wide open passing team the next.

I do not recall Wilson's Indiana teams gashing OSU with the run and then deciding, boy, that's working too well, let's center the offense around the inefficient parts because it worked well a decade ago at Florida (until it didn't, in spectacular fashion).

So, serious question. How do you explain what we've seen this year. I'm at a total loss.

It's my fault.

I am, apparently, cursed to walk the earth for all my days sounding like a sports economist and muttering "it's the offense stupid".

I thought with the arrival of Urban Meyer, the curse had been lifted. Alas, right when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in.

Take solace, I thought that with the arrival of Urban the offensive issues would forever be eliminated as well. It may, best case, be our fault then.

THAT is what I was looking for, makes sense. Thanks.

“The term we use around here is we’re not changing, we’re enhancing what we do,” Meyer said. “If it was broken then we’d have to change it. If we wake up one day fifth, sixth in the Big Ten in offense or something then you’re going to see one of those overhauls.

I mean, damn. Urban can't say he didn't lay it out for us.
