K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

Explain, if the Maxwell is for the best all around player, how the heck can Jason White win over a guy like Reggie Bush ? As far as I know, White only passes the ball and is not a runner. Bush runs, catches, and is a returner on special teams. Maybe the Maxwell should just be changed to the person that finishes 2nd for the Walter Camp Award.

Congrats to Nuge. I'm really going to miss his automatic kicking.
:oh: :io:

What a wonderful win tonight for Mike. Although "The Toe" never officially played varsity football at TOSU, he will always be considered to have been a "Buckeye." WWII took that away from him, and away from us. For an Ohio State kid to win the award named for the greatest kicker in "Ohio" history is just so special.

BTW, on the local sportstalk today, I heard ramblings from Greg Brinda that according to Kiper, that Nuge may actually be a late first-early second round pick. All is speculation, of course. But, I for one hope that Mike gets filthy rich off of his talents that have given us so much joy to watch over the past three years. Tonight ended any debate over who was the greatest kicker in the history of TOSU football.

Just got back from a stupor fest, so I didn't notice (or recall) the Walter Camp AA team. Didn't they just have a kick returner (KR) vice a separate kickoff returner and punt returner? That's the only reason why I could see them giving a narrow edge to Hester over Ginn, purely because of his sustained performance over the entire season in both kick return positions. I'm sure that every AA team that has a separate and distinct punt return selection will pick Ginn.

Congratulations to the unsung hero for OSU, former walk-on Kyle Andrews. The poor guy has been the long-snapper for three years, barely anyone would know who he was, but thanks to him, Nuge has been a Groza finalist twice, an All American twice, and now the Groza winner. Groom was a Ray Guy finalist and an All American, and Sanders was the Ray Guy winner and an All American in the only year he was ever eligible for the award.

Kyle walked-on to the team in 2001 and had to enter the Outback Bowl in a pinch. He's never given up the position since. From 2002-04, Kyle has been the long-snapping specialist for 38 consecutive games, and unless I'm mistaken he hasn't had a single, errant long-snap in his career. In fact, as I think about it, have we even allowed a blocked punt in the last three years either?

Long snappers don't get any awards, and unless they're regular position players aren't going to be up for Lombardis or Outlands or Bednariks, but Andrews deserves at least some type of recognition for what he's done for the team.

I agree with Dryden here. The kicking game has multiple parts to it that need to all work right for the kicking game to excell. Obviously, the person kicking the ball is important- without a talented kicker all is for naught- BUT, the long snapper being nearly flawless over the last three years is HUGE. Kyle Andrews had one task- get the ball to the kicker- and he has done damn near a perfect job of it.

The list of accomplishments Dryden listed above is as impressive as any three year run for any school ever. Andy Groom, BJ Sanders, and the Nuge have all been successful and consistently great for us and part of the credit needs to fall to Kyle Andrews brilliant play.
