K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

Didn't Jackacowoffski get drafted in the middle of the first round 3-4 years ago?
Sure did Mili - and the Raider Nation are so happy with the fella they could weep.
Could Al be daring (dumb) enough to use another 1st round pick on a kicker?
Outside of the LA Asylum I see all others taking till the second, unless...
there is a team that has a boatload of 1st round picks stored up from prior year trades.

Boy where is that silver tongued devil Kyper? Ah hell - who cares where he is.
What I hope is Nuuge goes to a good team.

There's only one front office in the NFL stupid enough to not draft a guy like Nuge because of a guy like Janikowski. That team already has a pretty good kicker in Phil Dawson though. The other teams probably just don't value their special teams enough to place a high value on a guy like Nuge. Somebody already said it a week or two ago, but Nuge will go in the back half of whatever round he's drafted in. Unless there is a playoff team in the front half via trade, all the teams up front will have too many other holes to fill to spend a draft pick on a kicker. Remember, BJ Sander went in round 3 last year, which says to me that Nuge will go in round 3 or earlier himself.

For what its worth I've always kind of liked this Un-kyperesque site when it comes to ranking the likely players and the likely order in which the teams may draft in Round 1.
They update the page after each week of NFL play and in my opinion that makes it a better "real-time" view than the NFL edition of scout.com

BTW they also have Nuuge as an outside chance Rd 1, likely within Rds 1-3. Other Kicking Specialist is the Punter Colquitt from Fulmers Farm in Knoxville.

And iambrutus - I also think a team like the Steelers would be a good match - they need a fellow with a steady leg there to fight the wind at the "open" end of the stadium.

He's more like better than all but 3 or 4.

Actually- I think after the first 3 games... someone did an analysis and determined that over 02, 03, and 04 (to that point) that Vanderjagt was theonly kicke on the planet better than nuge... and that pussy kicked ahlf his games in a dome.
According to Jeff Wilkins (St. Louis) Nuge has been the best kicker on the planet for two years now. For what thats worth.

It's really less about Nuge's merit as a player and more about the draft positions of teams that need kickers, and what else those teams need, as other posters mentioned. Late second round is a good guess, but the guy is nails. If you really need a kicker, you gotta grab him when you can.

I hope he gets picked in the late second round... I wouldn't be surprised if he falls to the third round... I highly doubt sombody would take him in the first round (with Great RB's, CB's, DE's and QB's to pick from)...

And the final thing going against him going in round one is that you blow up your cap structure by paying a Kicker first round money... but anyway... I know many a Steeler fan who would like to have him.

I agree, mid to late second round.

For what it's worth, I seem to remember hearing that Kiper was no longer affiliated with ESPiN as far as their coverage of the NFL draft. Don't know what happened, but something financial.......

The cap issue is an interesting point, however, a playoff team that is close to the cap would spend less money on the Nuge than on your typical player. The Steelers seem to be the best possibility for Nuge, as they are only 2.7 under the cap this year and Jeff Reed isn't exactly the best kicker in the league either. By getting a kicker in the late first round they could re-sign some of their own players or spend some on free agency. Depending on how the Vikings finish the year, I think they could also be in a situation in which they could save some money by getting the Nuge.
