K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

If there is any kicker I would take in the first round, it would be Nuge....Agree that he is the best college kicker I have ever seen. I think he will go early second round. Just want to make one point. Many kickers struggle coming out of college (more so punters than kickers) because of the difference of the ball. Quarterbacks also have an adjustment to make.

I'd guess the knucklehead from Oakland did away with anyone drafting a kicker in the first round for a while... plus it would command a salary that is generally out of whack for kickers...

I don't think I take him until the 3rd at the earliest if I'm a GM. He may have problems adjusting to the NFL, but he likely won't.. the only way I'd take him 2nd is if I had no holes. He's almost a can't miss, but if my big problem is kicking, then I might consider it.

I team would have to be truly desperate at kicker, and reasonably competent everywhere else to waste a high pick on Nuge. The earliest I can fathom Nuge going would be in the second round to Tampa Bay, who seems to have a kicker problem right now and has lost a lot of close games. :tongue2:

Nuge is amazing. Looking back over his career since 2002, the FGs he has missed were all on the hashes, and missed by margins smaller than the disparity between the hashes in the NFL and CFB. The misses this year against Cincy and Northwestern, for example, were by maybe a foot or two ... those tuck inside the uprights by three feet or more if kicked from an NFL hash.

Anyone who thinks Nuge will struggle with the ball adjustment have forgotten how hard he worked to go from struggling 3 years ago to being the greatest ever in most books.

Agreed tho, he will not go before the 2nd round. I wish he would, but the NFL is more about offensive superstars than college which favors a strong team with a solid kicking game.

Benson should have been ahead of Peterson and Cadillac Williams.

Teddy needs an AA team that picks kick returner separate from punt returner. When there's only 1 returner, they're looking at Bush's total yards.

Kickoff yardage returns should be looked at with a net figure, which subtracts the yardage the return man got inside the 20-yard line. A guy can run 5 kickoffs back to the 20 yard line, get credit for '100 return yards', and do his team absolutely no good in terms of field position. It's like looking at punter's yardage without factoring in touchbacks.

Now next year, when Teddy is returning punts and kickoffs, I reserve the right to alter my opinion.

He can't be worse than any of the Browns' recent first round picks. Ouch.
