K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

Nuuuuuug 1st team AA

Go Nuuuuug

THE SPECIALISTS
The specialists on this year’s AFCA Coaches’ All-America Team are punter Matt Payne of BYU, placekicker Mike Nugent of Ohio State and return specialist Reggie Bush of USC.

Payne averaged 45.2 yards per punt while also handling all the placekicking duties for the Cougars. Nugent, a Groza Award candidate, led the Buckeyes in scoring with 87 points as he converted 20 of 23 field goals and 27 of 27 PATs this year. Bush is one of the most dangerous return men in the country this year, ranking in the top 10 in both punt return and kickoff return average.

Do they have a second-team? I wonder if AJ and TG would make that?

Repeat After Me: Ohio State has the most players who have been repeat selections (12 players). The Buckeyes are followed by Oklahoma (9); Notre Dame (7); Texas (6); Michigan (5); Nebraska (5); and Southern California (5).

I was very pleased to notice Shazor not being on there.

And there's no way Peterson should be ahead of Benson. Peterson has a top-5 QB and the best WR's as teammates to offset the D. I hate benson, but he's gotten it done with no passing game by Vince Young.

I agree, Benson also has 6-7 more TD's and plays against Defenses that stack 8 and sometimes even 9 men in the box. Young was ineffective all season. If a RB were to win the Heisman this year, I'd have to give it to Benson. He has had no support from the passing game.

K Mike Nugent (official thread)

I know its very rare for a kicker to be taken in the first round (I think its only happened once before), but if there is a guy who should be, its Nuge. I can confidently say he is the best college kicker I have ever seen, and is likely better than 3 of every 4 guys in the pros now. (I dont know too many who are 8 for 9 at 50+).

Heres to Nuge going in the first round - and making a boatload of $$ along the way....

He's more like better than all but 3 or 4.

Actually- I think after the first 3 games... someone did an analysis and determined that over 02, 03, and 04 (to that point) that Vanderjagt was theonly kicke on the planet better than nuge... and that pussy kicked ahlf his games in a dome.
