K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

The NFL is funky with kickers...sometimes they are treated great, other times people could care less. The Bengals somehow got Shane Grahmn, and that was an amazing find for them. It is very difficult to figure out where Groza and Guy winners will go. I'm guessing mid to late 2nd round. Or maybe late 1st. He won't go early in any round, because these teams will likely be trying to build other aspects of their team...not kicking. I'd say it is likely that Nugent will end up on a team that is already very good.

if he slips past the first round ill be surprised. if he slips past the second ill be shocked.

what he brings weapon wise on the field is even with or superior to anyone at the position. how many times (even in the nfl) do you hear announcers refer to anything sub 50 yrds as, "this is a chipshot" or "this is pretty much automatic"? to go a step further, he's a leader that has a great deal of respect from a college powerhouse at a position that rarely gets any respect from anyone. one of the more loaded teams will pick him up. i think he will go real high in the first or mid second.

the NUUUUUUGEE is news!!

Tyler Jones also gets to kick off the artificial turf at Boise, which is a lot easier to kick off of than real grass, and yet his stats are worse than Nugent's. Only Wellock could mount any kind of challenge to Nugent, and even so Nugent's distance accuracy, overall consistency, and performance under pressure puts him well ahead of Wellock.

There's no question that Mike deserves this award. However, he deserved it in '02 and '03 and didn't win it in those years. In '02 you certainly could make an argument for Nate Kaeding(who won) but in '03 it shouldn't have been close and the voters gave it to Jonathan Nichols of Mississippi (State ?, I can't recall which)whose season was far inferior to Mike's. Hopefully the presumably same voters can get it right this time.

Ole Miss. I'm glad we have Nuuuge, especially for the 2002 & 2004 seasons, but must admit I wouldn't have had him as a finalist for 2003 either
