John Calipari (official thread of impending probation)

Disappointing to hear Cal is trying to get a kid to switch his commitment right after he makes it. I guess it shows how desperate Cal is to get some more talent on his roster next year. Right now I don't know if they'll even fill up enough spots to be able to go 5-on-5. Enes Kanter, the only big man who's expected to be on their team next year who's any good, may well be ineligible due to amateurism issues.

Sounds like Kanter is cleared. He also got Florida transfer Eloy Vargas who is eligible this year. #1 ranked recruiting class two years in a row.

Already has Gilchrist lined up for 2011 with Quincy Miller on deck. He is a salesman.

No big deal. Both of his big guys that are coming in will be gone after next year so he will have the same problem the following year. Plus, even though he signed an extension with Kentucky, him signing a contract means squat:tongue2:

Surprise, surprise:

N.C.A.A. Is Looking Into Former Kentucky Player - NYTimes.com

Interviews with those connected with Bledsoe?s life in Birmingham revealed potential violations:

  • Brenda Axle, the landlord for the house where Bledsoe and his mother moved for his senior year of high school, said that Bledsoe?s high school coach paid her at least three months? rent, or $1,200. By moving there, Bledsoe was eligible to play for Parker, which he led to the Alabama Class 5A title game. Maurice Ford, the coach, denied paying the money.

  • A copy of Bledsoe?s high school transcript from his first three years reveals that it would have taken an improbable academic makeover ? a jump from about a 1.9 grade point average in core courses to just under a 2.5 during his senior year ? for Bledsoe to achieve minimum N.C.A.A. standards to qualify for a scholarship.

  • A college coach who recruited Bledsoe said that Ford explicitly told his coaching staff that he needed a specific amount of money to let Bledsoe sign with that university. The coach, who did not want to be named out of fear of repercussions when recruiting in Birmingham, said Ford told him and his staff that he was asking for money because he was helping pay rent for Bledsoe and his mother. Ford denied this, saying, ?I don?t prostitute my kids.?

I'm sure someone (most likely a UK fan) will say that Calipari was never personally implicated.

Calipari didn't respond to messages. What? Maybe he wants to Twitter something?

From TMZ Sports:

Kentucky Basketball Players Subject of NCAA Probe

7/2/2010 12:18 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

TMZ has learned the NCAA is taking an aggressive look at University of Kentucky basketball players -- past and current -- and their possible involvement with professional agents.

According to a source who was interviewed by an NCAA investigator, the agency is interested in at least four players -- two current and two who were just drafted by NBA teams.

In the case of one former Wildcat, we're told the NCAA wants to know about his relationship with his current agent. We're told the investigator asked about multiple meetings the agent allegedly had with the player ... dating back to the player's senior year in high school.

The insinuation is the agent had an arrangement with the player before he went to Kentucky.

It is a violation of NCAA rules for a student athlete to receive anything of value from an agent -- or
to have any agreements, verbally or in writing, with an agent. Just ask USC, Reggie Bush or OJ Mayo.

The NCAA and Kentucky have not returned our calls yet.
