But you aren't @ USC...my question was directed at Buckeye fans. Would Buckeye Nation be up in arms if this was aimed at another school?

I was not offended I just thought it shows how revered tOSU is and that PState and Jo Pa look at us as the king of the mountain in the Big Ten and it was his chance to take a small shot at us. Does anyone really think he contemplated destroying tOSU's rep when he thought of the joke come on... We look worse for acting so sensative about it.

Then why should we be upset if the rest of the country views it as a joke? You realize there are actually idiots flooding the man's email and voicemail over this? My point is, tOSU fans are fitting right into the national reputation about which guys like Mandel write.

I'm not emailing anyone, I'm discussing a topic posted (by someone else) on an internet discussion board. I hardly think taking part in a discussion like this is going to reinforce negative stereotypes that the media has about OSU fans.
I don't hold anything against fans of another school for laughing at his comment, but I also expect them to be reasonable enough to see that if the comment were targeted at their school they wouldn't be too happy.

The point of them laughing is that they aren't taking it as serious as our own fans. They realize it was a joke, a jab, a zing, whatever. The only people taking it seriously are Buckeye fans.

To me, JoePa looked like he was having a blast tonight. He could barely quit laughing at the first mention of Heffner. He smiled almost all night and seemed to just be taking it all in. I think this was a culmination of a couple years of frustration finally being forgotten and him reaping the rewards. He had the crowd eating out of his hand most of the night, and he simply wanted another laugh.
When it all comes down to it, no one in the country likes Ohio State any more or less based on that exchange. If someone thinks our academics are a joke, that perception will continue with or without reasonable backing. Case in point, "Tennecleat", "Tennecheat", "Free Shoes University", "Cryami", "Thug U"...must I continue? Like Grad said, if JoePa said the same thing about Miami, we'd think it was hilarious and enshrine him...yet think no different of the Hurricane program.
When it comes down to it, reasonable people know it was a joke...and a moderately funny one. Unreasonable people won't have their opinion swayed anyway, because their thought process is blocked by their own personal bias. Kirk did the right thing by not getting defensive and making the University look bad. We should take a page out of his book...Herbie has long been the kind of classy picture in the face of adversity, that our fanbase would do well to emulate.

I seriously cannot believe people are complaining about it. It was all in good fun, they all laughed, it is over with. It isnt like he said the beat the hell out of us or something, all he did was make a joke about someone from tOSU being able to speak English. No big deal.
We make jokes about his age all the time, should we be reprimanded to. Should PSU fans flood you people's emails b/c you said Joe Pa could croke anytime.
